Changing the flight dyanmics ofa plane

Is it possible to do? For example, if a plane accelerates to quickly; not very life like, is it possible to slow it down? And the same for banking left and right? I only ask as some of the planes I have seem to have this well off real life! Thanks guys

You can "de-rate" the engine by changing the "Thrust Scalar" value in the aircraft.cfg file.It is usually set at 1.0, but you can change it to, say 0.8 to reduce engine power by 20%.This means you also have 20% less power at altitude though.. In other planes, you can add horsepower by going to 1.1 or 1.2... this can change a Cessna 172N into a 172S.

Simply changing engine power (or prop thrust) can leave you chasing your tail. For example, if your level-flight airspeed is wrong.. just adjusting thrust for that will throw your takeoff and climb performance out the window.. and things like fuel-consumption and range..Make a a backup of the cfg file.. do some research.. get some notes ready, and dive in.. it's hard work, but a lotta fun.

ksw1983,For: '.plane accelerates to(o) quickly' the solution is to reduce (in 5% steps) the 'static_thrust=27500.000' value in cfg's (Turbine Engine) section (which I made up-not real as I don't know which model / engines you are referring to). So a step down would be about 1375 less, or 26125.000. Go from there. But the engine specs in air file will 'add' to this, so you should check that cfg and air values for engine are at least 'close'. (Lear, static_thrust= 3500) (747-400, static_thrust= 56750). And for ANY: None should have 75000 lbs of thrust (it's TOO much). To compensate for 'cruise' power you can increase 'scalar' from 1.0 to 1.3 with no ill effects elsewhere. For: '..banking left and right? ... have this well off real' the solution is to have Auto Coordination ON in realism menu. And if you insist of flying manually, and prefer no 'auto rudder', then use the numpad 'Ins' and 'Enter' keys to 'dial in' some rudder when doing turns using Hdg feature of AP. The other thing to look at is the 'rudder effect on roll' in air file. Then there is the MOI's in cfg. And the yaw damping (hey, there is yaw involved when you make turns, even if you only make inputs to aerlions (ie: roll). And the 'yaw center' in air. And load/balance/speeds when making turns. And wind. And how you hold your mouth? So, if you KNOW what is 'real' then all you have to do is use the key presses and/or inputs on the appropriate controls to achieve that as it is in 'real'. Frankly, not even a 'real' pilot will be able to do this manually in FS9. And there is no AUTOMATIC feature in FS9 that will do it for you. So you 'fudge'. That's the best anyone can hope for don't you think. Cheers.CBNapamule

Nice one cheers all! Ill have a play around see what I can do!

If you are playing around with the Epic Victory, send me a PM and I can share some ideas..

Just looked for this "Thrust Scalar" but I cant find it in the CFG file?Ignore!I got it!

This is an extract from one of my posts on the IcarusGold site, concerning the changes I had to make to their Pitts S2:*MOI= moment of inertia*****************************************************************************I have to preface this with - in my case and on my computer: - NO - it doesn`t fly like a r/w Pitts at all!.The MOI figures make it badly imprecise, and introduces a response lag to the degree that landing is a nightmare. Stopping an eight-point roll is just as impossible. It is, however, fixable by changing the MOI`s to these or similar numbers:- (the originals follow the "//" characters).empty_weight_pitch_MOI =700 // 2717.00000empty_weight_roll_MOI =225 // 2295.00000empty_weight_yaw_MOI =950 // 2856.00000The next issue I had was the instrument panel being in my face!Fixed by changing the eyepoint to:[Views]eyepoint = -3.69903083842946216464,0.15624193847179413,1.93738647103309631This is done by getting your head into a spot which seems "right", and then saving the flight. That saved flight also saves the Camera position. Adding that position to the default figures in the aircraft.cfg gave me the above eyepoint. It doesn`t need to go to twenty decimal places, but I`m lazy, and I just copied/pasted and left it that way.Lastly - flight tuning:I changed the following:-aileron_effectiveness=2.0 // 1.00000pitch_stability=1.5 // 1.00000roll_stability=1.5 // 2.0000 // 1.00000p_factor_on_yaw=1.5 // 1.00000gyro_precession_on_yaw=1.5 // 1.00000**********************************************************************These changes made the aircraft flyable - indeed - quite aerobatic, but the original flew like a DC3. One can do this to any aircraft - just make sure your joystick is calibrated properly first, that any nulls are set as you want them in the FS, and that you make a backup of the files you're going to change..
