Using one aircraft out of a PAI package

Featured Replies

I would like to know if it is possible to install only one type of an aircraft out of a package from PAI. I have the WOAI FedEx package already installed, but for some reason, I have no MD-11 traffic. Lots of DC-10's but no MD-11's.What I want is to install the FedEx package from PAI and just use the MD-11's and flightplans from that. Is there a way this can be done? If not, will there be issues if I just install the entire package on top of the one I already have, or am I going to have duplicate flights everywhere?I've never gotten deep into AI traffic where I manually install models and paints and flightplans, but would be interested in doing this if I had to with this issue. Maybe someone can help me along? Thanks in advance.Robert Williams

It should be relatively simple but no guarantee that you will not a few duplicate flights. This is the procedure I would use:1. Start the PAI installer and select your FedEx package.2. At the Installation Mode screen, select the Manual installation option and then direct it to a temporary folder - perhaps on your desktop.3. After the program has done it's thing, navigate to that temporary folder - here you will find two folders, one with the aircraft which the package uses, and one with the decompiled Traffic files. 4. Place a copy of the correct aircraft into your FS2004 Aircraft folder. Before you do that, using Notepad, open the aircraft.cfg file for that aircraft and write down exactly what it says on the title= line for the FedEx variation.5. Then go to the other folder (likely named something like schedule.fedex) and look for the file which has ac as a part of the name - probably be something like PAI_FEDEX_ac.txt. Using Notepad again, open that txt file and look for the line which matches what you wrote down from the title= line of the aircraft.cfg file in step 4. I do not have the PAI FedEx package so cannot tell you exactly what to look for - but it would be similar to this (which is from another airline)...AC#7996,490,"PAI B752RR DHK_DHLOC"The AC# will likely be different as would the text in blue above but the pattern would be similar.Once you have found it, delete all of the other entries in this file and save your work.6. Now open the file which has FP as a part of the name. Delete all entries EXCEPT the any which match the AC# which is in the AC.txt file.If the AC# in the aircraft (AC) txt file was AC#7996 (as above), then the only entries in the flightplan (fp) text file should be that same number. It is not uncommon to have several entries with the same AC# as they relate to differring schedules and destinations. You just want to be sure to carefully remove entries which call for other AC numbers. Save your work.7. Now, assuming you have the free utility by Lee Swordy named Traffic Tools installed, take the three txt files (ac, ap, and fp - longer names of course) and place them into the same folder as the TTools.exe is located.Run TTools.exe and select the three files (click on one and the other two will automatically be selected) and compile them into a new traffic file. The new traffic file will now contain instructions to use that one aircraft only and use only flightplans that call for that aircraft. The new traffic file should be named something like Traffic_PAI_FEDEX.bgl and should be in your Scenery/World/scenery subfolder.I know that all may sound rather complicated but once you have done it, the process should make sense. To help make better sense of all this, you may wish to get a copy of Mike Stanton's fine tutorial - AI Made Easy. It explains in easy to understand terms just how AI traffic file are composed.http://library.avsim.net/search.php?Search...t&Go=SearchHope that is not too confusing.

Thank you for your help! I've handled everything up to the point where I'm needing to compile the file in TTools - I can't get the program to find the files at all. They're in the same folder as TTools like you instructed.Robert

Okay, after messing around with the file names and some goofing with the cfg file in the aircraft folder, I managed to get everything working. All's good. Thanks again!Robert
