April 18, 201016 yr Moderator Just curious as to what the consensus is re when CPU prices will come down again. New stuff isn't out until next year so does that mean prices on things like 980X will hold until then or possibly drop a bit?Currently the 980x is >$1kUS. WOuld be nice if it came down. April 19, 201016 yr The 980x was just introduced. Its price will not be dropping any time soon. In fact, Intel may not even release a faster SKU in the i7 family. The 980x may not be replaced until Intel launches it's next generation Sandy Bridge processor family next year. These chips will be on a whole new platform and are a new micro-architecture.
April 20, 201016 yr Edit: totally forgot what forum I was on >.<Prices won't drop much, if at all. You're probably looking at a price drop of 1 - 300$ several months down the line. Drop the money and pay for FSX FPS yumminess!
April 20, 201016 yr Intel doesn't drop prices on their Extreme edition CPUs, they just replace old models with new ones. It's up to retailers to drop prices after that. All Extreme edition CPUs are officially priced @ $999 for the entire duration of their existence as the flagship part for Intel.
