No FMS after takeoff

Featured Replies

I have had this plane for two weeks and have tried to learn everything I need to know from this forum and using the tutorial flight. So far I can get through everything up through takeoff and raising gear and flaps. Then I start looking at various instruments and discover that the FMS is not on.I have completed the tutorial step by step without missing a step and somewhere this is getting turned off. I can assure you that I have not physically turned it off. I don't even know how. There is a step that you turn off the avionics and another step later, after startup, where you turn them back on. Not sure if this is the problem or not.Is anyone else having this problem? What am I not doing right? Thanks for any help on this.Roy Warren

You seem sure that you did not turn the FMC off, but you don't say that you actually turned it on. It is not required for flight but if used, the FMC would normally be turned on and programmed after the avionics are re-started. In other words, after the engines have been started and before take-off. (This is why it is the co-pilots job, the pilot is taxi-ing the plane). See page 39 of the tutorial for details.

Paul Smith.

In both the tutorial and the Flight Operations Manual the FMS is turned on and programmed prior to engine start. What is expected to happen is that, after you turn the avionics switches off, the FMS goes blank but it is still powered and it preserves the programming. Then, after engine startup, you turn the avionics switches on the overhead panel back on and the FMS display should come back. Don't touch the "On" button on the FSM again after the initial power up.If this doesn't happen - if the FMS remains blank and you are sure it is not because you missed a step somewhere - then try Pauls suggestion as a workaround.

Paul,As I stated in my post, "I have completed the tutorial step by step" and yes, this included setting up the FMC.I have read the Tutorial about six times and have even made a proceedures list of my on, up to the end of the preflight, which is a far as I've got. (116 steps) I created this by going page by page through the Tutorial which I printed out and bound. I have checked an no pages are missing.I'll try programming after engine start-up as you suggested and see what happens. The Tutorial is misleading if you are supposed to do this after start-up. Wonder why would they put it before start up in the manual, if this is the case? Thanks for the info. I'll try it and see what happens.Roy Warren
