JS41 Engine start

Featured Replies

If you do it in the sequence the Tutorial says, they will shut down when you cut off the avionics.
No, turning off the avionics switch does not dump the FMS, it just blanks the screen. If you follow the steps in the tutorial exactly, you will see that FMS programming is preserved after engine start. In the tutorial you are starting the left engine on ground power. The key step to remember is turn on the left engine generator before disconnecting ground power. What will dump the FMS (at least partly) is to leave it running on battery power alone after setting up. Not sure if that is supposed to happen, but that's how it works in the sim.

This doesn't work for me. I've done it several times and I completely lose the FMS. Here is what I do. Please correct me where I'm wrong. After left engine start and gets up to EGTI turn on the left generatorThen I pull up the Ramp Mgr and remove the wheel chocksI then start the right engineafter EGT stabilizes, I click ON the right generatorThen turn both fuel pumps OFFThen turn the GPU OFFThen turn the Avionics switches ONRoy Warren

If we're talking about the real-world, you can't start the #2 engine with the GPU back there. It's right behind the exhaust, so there's no way for the ramp guys to disconnect it.There was some discussion about exactly what bus powers the FMS and whether or not turning off the Right Avionics Master would dump it or not. I defer to RSR's experience.Personally, I don't program the FMS until after both generators are online. The initialization if very short, and can easily be accomplished in the blocks before taxi, or even during the taxi out.About the electrical configuration; turn on Gen 1, disconnect the GPU, start #2, turn on Gen 2, then turn on both Avionics Master switches.

This is more or less the same that I do - I remove the GPU once the left engine is running, but obviously that should make no difference.I've never once lost the FMS by following the procedure in the Tutorial - strange that there should be a difference. What happens if you turn the avionics switches off and back on after programming the FMS, does that dump it?

Tom,I failed to mention that was removing the GPU the same time I removed the Chocks. At least I have it on my procedures list that way. I tried it again, your way, and it didnt' dump the FMS.I must have been doing something wrong. I had it dump the FMS at least 3 times in a row. Thanks for helping me clear this up.Roy Warren
