Minimum and Best Performance System Configuration for FSX

Featured Replies

Hi All , I have been using my old desktop for a long time for fs98,fs2002... and then fs2004...did all the tweaks for max fps and graphics . Then time came for my two laptops ....bush flying in sf260 and short haul flights in a320 ...around the globe ...always wanted to run fsx with max settings, max graphics , max fps and max addons to make it as realistic as it could be ....now i have decided to buy a new RIG....(Desktop) specially for FSX and any more versions to come (dreaming .....zzzz)I stay in New Delhi (India) and planning to get a assembled RIG. Please write your suggestions for system specifications that you think are best suited for fsx . Note - I prefer Intel over AMD and my max budget is 30,000 INR (675 USD approx)Also please search for "madyville" on youtube to check my vids , havent uploaded any recently but the ones already there are good ...please check them out !!

Your not going to be able to run FSX on max everything with $675. I paid almost AU$8000 for my system, and it runs FSX on max everything. I know an i7 9xx system OC'd will do it as well, but you won't get an i7 for US$675. Sorry, but to do what you want, you'll have to increase that budget.

675USD is not nearly enough for what you write above. You *need* 1000$ CPU + 600$ GPU to achieve that, + some really bad memory and SSDs...Buuuuuuuut..... if you can step down from your wishes of running max settings, max graphics, max fps AND max addons... sure, it's achievable by some slight degree. Don't expect much though. That budget is VERY low for FSX.1156 CPU, i5-750 or so would be a good start, some mobo in 150$ pricerange, look it up, from ASUS maybe... ASUS P7P55D is a good mainboard I think for the money.To that GTX470 if you can afford, or GTX275 if you can still find it (used shouldn't be a problem, many will be selling them due to new 470/480 series). 4GB of 1600mhz RAM at least, preferrably CL7, take your pick here, I prefer Corsair.That and some decent cooling so that you can OC the CPU to 3.6 or 3.8 if you are lucky. Maaaaaaaybe even 4.0, but who knows. I don't know the motherboard.And a fast drive: you really SHOULD get at least a WD-Velociraptor, 150 or 300GB.That should give you pretty decent results on FSX, even with some decent addons like JS41.Still even with that machine, don't expect what you wrote.

Ahh, we can't get everything in life. :( but it's true what he's saying. $675 won't go very far. All the guys you see on here with i7's in their sigs and enjoy FSX on max settings have put minimum $1500 USD, with some who are stupid enough spending $8000. I wonder who I'm talking about?

@chris493:Do you have ever tried FSX on your Work/Everyday Rig from your signature? I'm thinking about getting a similar setup:Intel i7-930 with Noctua NH-U12P SE2 (I'm planning to overclock)ASUS P6T SE6GB Triple Channel DDR3-1600 (with option for additional 6GB later, the DDR3 prices are insane at the time)nVidia GTX 480Intel X25-M G2 Postville 80GB SSD (Windows)Samsung SpinPoint F3 1000GB (FSX and other Games, perhaps a SSD only for FSX later, when I can get a big enough one for a reasonable price)Enermax Modu87+ 600W (will this be enough with the GTX 480?)Cooler Master CM 690 II Advanced case(That would be ~1600

Windows 11 Pro - Ryzen 3 5900X - nVidia RTX 4090 - 32GB DDR4-3600 === Microsoft Flight Simulator

With my G15, I have the drivers and software on both comps and when I want to use one, I just unplug it from one and plug it into the other. Their not connected to both at the same time. I have an L shaped desk with my work comp at one side, and game comp the other, so I just unplug monitor, perpherals from one, an into the other. My FSK is on a dedicated SSD so I am trying it in my work comp at the moment. Setting are 1080p, and everything on max exept traffic on 75%. Running really smooth and 30-40 FPS average. It works well. The upgrade will make a difference. The extra cores will show a large improvement in smoothness, less stuuters etc. And also a fps increase. It's worth it in my opinion.With your setup, I recommend minimum 750W. Also make sure it is a good quality one like corsair for OCing. I also recommend putting FSX on your SSD for now, and the OS on 1tB HD, then move OS to SSD later. There is only a 7 second decrease in boot times between my work and game rig. My game rig boots in about 15-18 secs, and work about 23-25 secs.

For the OP, here's a online custom builder site: http://www.cyberpowerpc.com/ that will give you an idea of how far your budget can take you. Unfortunately I too have no good new for you: FSX goodness starts with an OCed i7/i9; without that you are not going to get much of max FSX anything. And to make matters worse, even the latest top end AMD processors are still under the i7/i9 performance curve. You need to reconsider your priorities for you new computer.

Totally agree. For a best performance system, I would not go below the following:CPU: i7 920 @ 3.8Ghz and higher Cooling: Dark Night, Venomous X, Corsair H50, etc.MOBO: ASUS P6T, equivalent, or betterMEMORY: 6GB DDR3 1600Mhz 8-8-8-24 or better, basically buy the fastest/lowest latency memory you can afford, stick with quality brands (OCZ,Corsair,G Skills)GPU: GTX 275/285/470/480, or ATI 5850/5870 (must use ******* Altuve's VSYNC and shader 3.0 mod with the ATI cards)HDD: WD Caviar Black 7200rpm 32MB cache, WD Velociraptor 10000rpm, SSD if you can afford, in all cases I recommend separate OS/FSX drivesPSU: 650 watt minimum, good brand like OCZ, Corsair, PC Power and Cooling, etc.OS: Windows 7 64 bit by farAgain, this would be for a high end system in the $1500 to $2000 range. For a lower budget but still good performance, I would go for an i5 series processor, some fast DDR2 memory, a GTX 260 216 shader GPU, and a single WD Caviar Black 7200 rpm drive. A good case helps as well, I like my Cooler Master HAF 922.
