Learning to fly an Airbus

Featured Replies

Hello,This is my first post, so just go a little easy on me.In my three years of flight simulation experience, I have been a Boeing centric. Almost all of my flights have been with Boeings. I left the default Airbus A321 offered in FSX after my first attempt at flying it and don't plan to go back to it either :( . Now, I want to learn to fly Airbuses so I have a few questions:1. I want to start simple so I'll go with a freeware Airbus first. I searched the library and found two types of models: the IFDG model and the Project Airbus model. My question is: which one of these models is the most realistic for FSX? Also, any suggestions for a FSX specific model?2. If I get the hang of it, which payware package is the best for me? The Airsimmer A320 or the Wilco Airbus Series or the Aerosoft A320? The first two have their merits and de-merits so I'm a bit confused.3. Can someone explain me how fly-by-wire works? I know how about the technical aspect but I want to know how you actually control the aircraft using it. My experience with the FSX A321's fly-by-wire system was horrible :( .Regards,

Do another search here at AVSIM for "Thomas Ruth". He he put out a great freeware bus, a few in fact (300/30/40 I think)

All fly-by-wire does is take the pilot's inputs to the flight controls and process them, than the FBW computer determines whether the pilot's "request" will keep the plane within its flight envelope/performance limits. According to my father-in-law who has flown Airbuses, he believes that the FBW system played a big role in the US Airways Hudson River incident. He said in that situation, you could essentially pull the stick full aft, and the plane would then descend without engine power and would only lower the nose as much as needed to prevent stalling.

Hello and welcomeYou may find this site of interest:http://www.smartcockpit.com/plane/airbus/A320/I can recommend the Wilco Airbus if you want to get an idea of which buttons to press and in which order! The Aerosoft 'bus is imminent, and should be an even better intro, although not all systems will be modelled at first (I believe more advanced features will follow later). I would avoid the Airsimmer product for the time being....Ian
