All,With respect to the title: "A MAJOR INCREASE IN FRAMERATES...READ HERE"....Note the caps...Please treat all "fix its" with the respect they deserve. If you are willing to take a chance, well, at least back up your system first. Ya never know.Included for your (unrelated) perusal...."This is perfectly legal!" means "It's legal in Iraq... I think." "If you want to stop receiving email about this product, send an email to the following address." means "I'd love to know if there's someone actually reading the email at this address, so come on and talk to me. I promise I won't bother you again about this product, but don't worry, we'll have plenty to talk about, like the hundred other products I want to sell you!" "This really works!" means "I hope this works, I need the money." "Thousands of satisfied customers!" means "Thousands of people didn't bother to complain. Tens of thousands did." "Find out everything about anybody anywhere!" means "Find out some things that may or may not be accurate about the seven people that were stupid enough to submit their personal data to us." "Live longer!" means "You won't be able to sue us when you're dead anyway." "A very sick little child needs your help!" means "I haven't been on the net long enough to see the previous 50 incarnations of this chain email and I'm now going to ask you to collect the tabs of tin cans, which can be sold for scrap metal. Of course the much bigger can, made of the same material is absolutely worthless, so don't collect that." "Fight impotency today!" means "I want to sell you some porn." "Let our computer select your perfect mate!" means "We usually get the gender of your perfect mate right, but this program does have the strange habbit of coupling people in Europe with people in South America." "This will sound too good to be true!" means "It's not true." I think you get my point, not slagging the original poster, well, a little bit, hope he has a sense of humour, but you HAVE to take it ALL with a healthy dose of salt and trepidation.Once you jump outta the plane, the chute better work. You checked it, right?BCand I renewed my login status, thanks.

Hi,First off it looks like you assume that I did this for FS FPS increase. I did not as FS runs just fine for me. I entered into this thread because I've messed with the cache many, many times and never have had to reformat because of it. >You are unlikely to get much benefit from having swap files>etc on a different partition.... They must be on a different>physical hard disk. I don't disagree with this.>>On the same partition the heads are still thrashing around>writing different data to different places and in fact you may>make matters worse doing this.I don't agree it could make it worse. Just not better>>If you have Windows on one phisical disk, the swap file on>another and a third just for the flight sim data you should>get a noticable increase in performance. This is not rocket>science it has been done for decades. Programs on one disk and>data on another.>>A big hard disk, therefore, does not help you and may make>matters worse because it has to switch continually between>different places on the disk surface. You need a FAST hard>disk preferably SCSI or even Serial ATA (SATA) if you can't>afford SCSI. Most important: You need more than one!>>You also need a fast graphics card. Sorry but an FX5200 is not>fast. That's entry level these days. You should be looking at>FX5600 or better. An older GeForce 4 Ti4600 is better than a>5600. I know I have both and then some.Sorry but the Ultra version is much faster than the standard FX5200 and the Ti4600 doesn't do DX9 well. Ahh yes, the key words, "these days", I do wish I had the money to go out and buy the flavor of the week hardware but I don't.>You need 1Gb of RAM with Windows XP. That makes a world of>difference. While I want 1gig I still have that little problem with money and it would cost me about $150.00 US to get that gig. Sorry to say that $150.00 is a lot of money for me these days.>Pro is better than Home.I have pro>In the old days if we>wanted out PCs to fly we would simply stick some more RAM in>and then turn off the swap file. With the larger amount of>memory Windows went like a rocket! It's quite a lot bigger>now though so you would probably need 6Gb of RAM or so in>order to make it work but it definitely improves substantially>when you increase from 512k to 1Gb of RAM and again at 2Gb. >>CPU power. CPU power. CPU power. Secondary to graphics card>but very important.I'll just have to suffer with my 2ghz system until I get the money to buy faster but by then folks will be saying I need the newest 6ghz system to run FS.>>Finally what a lot of people don't understand is that the>motherboard is VITAL. Different chipsets can make a vast>difference in performance. I have 2 identical machines here>except for the motherboard. I won't name the slow one but the>fast one is Asus and it is SO much faster that I spent a long>time trying to sort out the slow one. I gave up. Gigabyte also>make fast motherboards as do SuperMicro and ABit. I don't buy>or sell any other manufacturers boards these days if I can>help it.>How right you are. I'll name names, mine has a Nvidia chip set and I think it stinks and I'll never get another one. I may even get a new MB rather than that 1 gig of ram I wanted.>I hope this helps someone somewhere. >Fiddling with your>Windows settings can be very dangerous if you don't know what>you are doing. Well I've never been hurt by changing any settings. I keep a baseball bat handy, computers respect that and have never attack me, but there was that switching power supply a few years back that bit me. I was sticking scope probes into it so I really couldn't blame it for attacking. I also know what I'm doing and seldom take any action that would provoke the computer. There is no substitute for power. If there was>then Windows would be delivered with all these magical>settings pre-configured.Kind of like an Xbox.>>Oh..... Get Service Pack 2 for XP!Maybe, maybe not. I'll see how it works out at work before I jump in. Besides I'll just have to go mess with all thoses service settings again which could pose a danger.Jon>>>David>
