Old Bird Teaches Old Dog New Tricks!

Featured Replies

Thus far I have not been much of a fan of 3D Virtual Panels and have regressed to the old 2D format just about all of the time. To me personally, so many of the 3D panels were too dark for me to read well, badly positioned, gauges or switches did not function, etc. (You know the scenario). Thanks to so many new contributions coming out without my preference (no 2D Panel), I was dreading having to adapt. I may have just changed my mind. With a lot of soul searching, the only reason I have not already purchased Carenado's new Bonanza is due to my old ways (No 2D panel). The old V-Tail has been my favorite single engine land aircraft of that type both real world and in flightsim. I was severely disappointed that it did not have a 3D panel. As an old real world aircraft used for flight instruction many years ago, I just downloaded and installed the Luscombex.zip freeware from this site's library. To my dismay, it came up with no panel. Switched to Virtual, and there she was. It was early this morning, so no lights were on, and the usual dark panel appeared. Pressed the "L" key and low and behold everything lighted up. Changed the time to about noon and flew around the pattern once. Simple as it may be, the panel is outstanding as is the aircraft (Old Bill Lyons update thanks to Craig Richardson). I highly recommend this bird if you are into aircraft of this type at all. Thanks Craig, and Bill. She includes multiple liveries of both wheel and float models. If the F33 by Carenado's 3D panel is anywhere near as good and easy to read as this old bird, I am going to have to get my credit card out. The only thing I dread is having to learn to make personal modifications and additions to 3D panels, but maybe a new learning curve is a good thing. Thanks again Craig, Bill, (and Carenado pending).Respectfully:RTHEdit: Only thing I have found so far on the Luscombe is I don't much care for the ignition switches on the panel. You cannot check the Mags. If you turn off one, both turn off and the engine shuts down. Hopefully, a simple edit or two will cure this.

What you need to invest in now is a TrackIR. As the very old TV commercial says, "Don't leave home without it." IMHO TIR is absolutely indispensable when flying in the virtual cockpit. There is a short learning curve involved, nothing that you won't be past in an hour or less.

Awwwww. Woodhick:There you go making me get the credit card out again! As an old timer I am not too wild about having to wear stuff on my head when flying, but will sure give your recommendation some consideration. Your link also particularly interests me for more than one reason. I live in Lewisburg just north of I-64 across from the Elk's club golfcourse directly under the ILS approach to runway 4 of the Greenbrier Valley Airport. Are you local too? Thanks for the reply:RTH

Hello Tomaz:Sometimes an old blind sow finds an acorn. That's what I felt like with this one, particularly for a taildragger. It was only nostalgia that motivated me to download this one, but what a fine contribution to flightsim. She flies beutifully. It is strange how such a simple contribution may change one's entire outlook, in this case virtual 3D panels for me. This will be a fine selection for low and slow applications, just about as good as Bill Lyon's J3 Cub.Happy flying:RTH

This old bird is really great! How did I miss this one?
