"What are the functions of the following buttons in the autopilot panel? :"From the manual-you can go to this site and download it in pdf form http://www.baron58.com/manuals.htm :- UP/DN

This rocker switch allows you to make small corrections in selected altitude while in altitude hold, or adjust pitch attitude at a rate of approximately .9 degrees per second when not in altitude hold.

- YDA Yaw damper is a device to damp (reduce) the rolling and yawing oscillations due to Dutch Roll.- BC

The V-bar will command the bank necessary to capture and track a reverse localizer course. Glideslope is locked out.

Slave/Free switch

Selects free or slaved gyro operation

AP_question.jpgHope that helps!

I suppose that's true for a regular Bonanza, but on this version those buttons do (or seem to do) nothing at all or (when at the assigned altitude) simply turn off the ALT on the AP and the AVSS (Altitude and Vertical Speed Selector). I think it's because of that AVSS, which, I suppose, overrides the UP/DN button.

As best I can tell, the UP and DOWN buttons in the Bonanza adjust Pitch in a Pitch Hold mode. If Altitude Hold is on,they disconnect Altitude Hold and switch to Attitude (Pitch) Mode.If you would like the autopilot to start up in Attitude Hold mode and with Wing Leveler on,delete the following two lines in the aircraft.cfg file, under Autopilot:use_no_default_pitch= use_no_default_bank=

Thanks as always Bert. That is the way my Century IV works. I am not familiar with this model but that will make the experience more real for me.

Ah, yes, I see it now: nice! You sort of control the VS with it: every press of the button is aprox. 50 ft, so when you are flying level and you want to climb at 600 ft per minute, press UP about 12 times and up you go (if ALT was on it will be turned off indeed, and also the AVSS). And if you have reached an alt you like or want or need, you can press ALT on the AP and it will actually hold the current altitude. If you do nothing the plane will continue to climb at that pitch. Nice! It's not something the AP and AVSS can't do, but it's nice to have the options. You can also (although I don't think it's meant for it) use it instead of the trim: manually make the plane fly level and use UP/DN for finetuning.
