Setting up practice approach

Featured Replies

I'd like to practice circuits and coupled ILS approaches at a named airport without having to enter an entire flightplan into the FMS.For those days when I need a sim fix, but don't have the time for a complete startup routine, is there an equivalent exe to Coldandark, which delivers the exact opposite state: i.e. "Readyfortakeoff"? :( If not, what's the best workaround? Many thanks.Best wishes,David Abrahams

Just start your sim and load your JS41.... should be ready to go. And if not without programming the FMS I myself have the JS41 including engine start ready in 1 minute.

Thanks StoneX.Maybe I'm confused, but what I've been advised to do, in order to avoid both known and unforeseeable JS41 loading glitches, is to start by choosing the Trike at intended departure airport, turning its engine off and then switching to J41 from the aircraft menu in the top bar. The result is that a fully reliable J41 loads cold (though not dark: for the full flight prep experience the Coldanddark exe works very well to switch (almost) everything else off.)Maybe I should just save a situation with JS41 running and then switch airports - but this isn't quite consistent with apparent best practice for glitch-free JS41 loading, which expressly advises against loading with the engine running.Hmm ... :( Best wishes,David Abrahams

David, I think I can clear this up for you. When you're in the midst of a flight on approach, just save the flight at that point. When you want to reload it, do so directly and it should be fine (except the FMS will be off, and perhaps the lights off, minor things). Everything else will be as you saved it, and you can practice your approaches all day long. I have several saved situations like this, and they all work fine. Now, with cold and dark you need to ADD one step. You don't load the flight directly, you must load the default flight first (actually load and FLY it for like 5 seconds). Then pause the sim, and load your cold and dark saved flight. It will be cold and dark just as you saved it. I hope this makes sense, I think you'll be satisfied if you try it.
