  1. Fair enough, Bryan. Sorry to take your time. As you gathered I'm using the laminated PMDG checklist as supplied, which is how my confusion arises. Best wishes, David
  2. Quite often during BEFORE TAXI CHECKLIST (presumably always, I can't remember!), FO repeats the "Engine start levers" item, once too early after "Anti ice" (the surprise) and once nearer the end of the list (where it should be). Also, in the PREFLIGHT CHECKLIST, FO links two items, "Pressurization mode selector" and "Flight instruments". My PMDG laminated checklist doesn't put a line space between these two, so maybe they are meant to be checked as one. But they are rather different items, aren't they? Anyone got a view on these? Thanks. Best wishes, David
  3. Thanks Zoran and Pete. Duly noted. Best wishes, David
  4. Many thanks, Tim. Will do. Best wishes, David
  5. Apologies for using this forum, but can't see any other way. I would appreciate a PM from someone at REX so I can resolve registration for members' forum support (CTDs, no clear installation instructions with download or in manual). Registered for REX Extreme a while back. Now when attemptiing to register for Essentials forum, my input is rejected on the grounds that "email already in use". It would be: it's mine! Guess I need help from REX systems admin on this, but no reply to my email over last day or two to a REX.com forum moderator. Thanks! David
  6. Thanks again, Julian. I'll do it right away! David
  7. Thanks for your response, Julian. Appreciated. The installation had already worked okay, though your advice regarding the CAB files etc was very helpful and reassuring. Unfortunately I have had (and am still having) difficulties registering to join the REX forum (weird), because there are other CTD issues that I need to check on. But on the couple of occasions REX did work, it looked fantastic! Fingers crossed! Best wishes, David
  8. Can anyone advise on these simple point regarding REX Essentials installation, so I don't make a mess of it. I saved the installation package to my desktop. There are two exe files in the package, one obviously the main exe for installation, then another one called "dotnetfx.exe", Clicked the main .exe file and the main app installed okay in its own c-drive folder. Now the dumb questions - there doesn't seem to be any advice on this I can see in the manual or the forum: 1. What do I do with the dotnetfx.exe file? Just put it into the Rex folder? 2. What about all the "Cab" zipped files (Cab11 through Cab14)? Unzip them into the Rex folder as well? Those would be my assumptions, but need a bit of reassurance ... :Hypnotized: Many thanks!! David
  9. Victor, Thanks for that. Perfect. Another good reason to visit to Paris then! Best wishes, David
  10. Thanks for the tip-off. 20 minutes from home!! Best wishes, David
  11. Recognise that problem too! ;) David
  12. Looks absolutely great. Thanks for sharing. You were in Paris. Does Flight Experience conduct the flights and briefings in English or just French? Understandable if only French - you were in Paris after all! But the .fr site offers English language and Paris is only a short hop from here ... Best wishes, David
  13. Take your point, Ailchim. Another situation I had in mind was when you load a free flight straight to the active runway and make material changes to TO parameters and FS2C CFG based on prevailing conditions (flaps, QNH, anti-ice, APU, bleeds etc), it might be helpful to have the FO keep up with whatever needed to change on his side once you clicked straight on to Takeoff mode. Might be different, for example, if on another occasion you loaded the free flight on the ramp with engines running in icing conditions and contaminated runway and wanted to click straight to Taxi ... Best wishes, David
  14. Many thanks, Bryan. You can't say fairer than that. Fingers crossed! Best wishes, David
  15. Unless I've missed something, the FO doesn't automatically play catch up. So, for example, if you open up a saved flight, for example in the cruise or on short final, and then click through the FS2Crew modes to find the right mode for your current flight situation, the FO doesn't know what's missing and switch things on that are required for the current flight mode, but which he would normally have switched on earlier in another mode. Right now, he just proceeds as normal from the beginning of the mode in question, but ignores anything else that's not quite right, doesn't he? If my assumption is correct, then how about a "catchup button" in the CFG window, which would ensure everything was as it should be at the beginning of the mode in question? You wouldn't have to use it, but it would be rather convenient and helpful for (say) repeating the same approach from a saved file. [Apologies if FS2Crew already does this: my system's not yet powerful enough to be quick at iterative tests - takes too long to shut down and restart to test various modes!] How say? Best wishes, David
  16. Thanks for that, Paul. Yes, very handy indeed. Have definitely been thinking of Radar Contact, but not until my system's a bit punchier! Best wishes, David
  17. Another thought for SP2: Could we possibly have an option to pause the sim (say) 50NM before ToD, so that we can get the pre-descent flows and checklist done in good time? Especially with the added realism and operational discipline introduced by FS2Crew, completing the descent flows and checklist way before time, so you can go downstairs for a coffee feels like cheating - but then trying to do it all in 10 seconds flat when you un-pause is a bit of challenge too! Best wishes, David
  18. Again thanks. So did you just have a single 250GB SSD drive - or more than one - and no disk drive at all?? I'm a bit confused about this. I would like to achieve a great platform for FSX, PMDG's 737NGX and J41, AS2012, FS2Crew, heavy scenery and Radar Contact. Just that! :) Best wishes, David
  19. Yes. What size SSD is recommended, given (I assume) that it stores your OS and FSX? Thanks. David
  20. ... Thought I'd signed off with a smile not a kiss! Oops! David
  21. Great to know about these high performance laptop alternatives. Thanks! David
  22. Special thanks to everyone for sharing your views and experience. I'll be printing the thread out, sitting down with a highlighter pencil and formulating a sensible acquisition strategy. Couldn't have done it without you! Best wishes, David
  23. Thanks for your thoughts everyone ... Best wishes, David Hmmm ... See your point, Paul ... David Thanks for all those helpful details, Ulrich. Budget? IDEALLY not more than GBP 1000 ... Best wishes, David
  24. Dear performance experts, Finally decided I probably need a dedicated PC for 737NGX ... Can't be doing with any more greyouts and OOMs and freezes on short final, ages while FSX boots, performance limitations and no room for advanced scenery. I am no technie and frankly can't get into building my own kit .. and it needs to a laptop for domestic reasons (!). So, if I wanted to add the best of everything: online weather, the heaviest worldwide scenery and airports, FS2Crew, Radar Contact, joysticks ... and all the stuff I don't even know about yet, and still achieve great in-flight and visual performance, what's the best off-shelf Windows laptop for the job? This Dell one .. or some other advanced "gamer's" PC? 2nd generation Intel® Core™ i7-2670QM Processor (2.2GHz with Intel® Turbo Boost up to 3.1GHz) 8GB 1333MHz Dual Channel DDR3 SDRAM [2x4096] 500GB (7,200rpm) Serial ATA Hard Drive DVD+/-RW (DVD, CD read and write) 1GB NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 550M Graphics Card 44 cm (17.3 inch) HD+ with Multi-touch WLED TL (1600x900) 900p with 2.0 Mega Pixel Integrated Camera English Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium (64 BIT) Directional advice would be very much appreciated! Thanks in advance. Best wishes, David
