Dumb questions about Rex Essentials installation

Featured Replies

Can anyone advise on these simple point regarding REX Essentials installation, so I don't make a mess of it.

I saved the installation package to my desktop. There are two exe files in the package, one obviously the main exe for installation, then another one called "dotnetfx.exe",

Clicked the main .exe file and the main app installed okay in its own c-drive folder.

Now the dumb questions - there doesn't seem to be any advice on this I can see in the manual or the forum:

1. What do I do with the dotnetfx.exe file? Just put it into the Rex folder?

2. What about all the "Cab" zipped files (Cab11 through Cab14)? Unzip them into the Rex folder as well?

Those would be my assumptions, but need a bit of reassurance ... :Hypnotized:

Many thanks!!

Hi David, don't touch the Cab files, and leave the ddnetfx alone as well. They are part of the installation and unpack to make the install routine.and no user input required. You need to go to the folder on your C drive and install, run as admin. All you have done thus far is unpack it, you still need to install. Rex forums have advice on installing. BTW, REX have a great support forum, and this forum is for PMDG NGX.

Thanks for your response, Julian. Appreciated.

The installation had already worked okay, though your advice regarding the CAB files etc was very helpful and reassuring.

Unfortunately I have had (and am still having) difficulties registering to join the REX forum (weird), because there are other CTD issues that I need to check on. But on the couple of occasions REX did work, it looked fantastic!

Fingers crossed!

Best wishes,

Glad I could help David. There is a thread on the MSFSX Avsim forum regarding ESS, and Tim from REX has posted, when you find it, it's on the front page, send him a PM and he can sort your log in issues.
