I didn't add any support to import CSV files, just to export them. I was considering it but wasn't sure if anyone would use that feature or not. If you think that is another way to make things easier then I would mind adding it. To be honest, I'd rather write it in the VB6 version first, before I code it in C++.Mark
EDIT: I wouldn't mind adding it...bad typing on my part...Mark

FYI, I've identified a couple of things that are small, (they aren't bugs per say), just things that I should have thought of and blanked out on. So I think that I'll release a final VB6 version of this app, (1.2.1), and then close it out for a stand alone, statically linked, C++ version. BTW, it's really fun doing proof of concepts in VB6. I can write something in 2 hours as opposed to 1 week and then have enough time to take my wife out to dinner and still write an MRP system for my day job!Anyway. I hope that you you guys find this app useful and that the text editor concept is understood as opposed to the grid editing one. I think that if I enabled grid editing then we might get stuck in the same rut as with the FS interface...to complicated and slow. Regardless, I always hope that someone may be able to come up with a better and simpler idea. One more thing to remember is that you can always post a request here to have a feature added or junked...payback for all the stuff we have taken for granted. Thanks Tom, and the librarians...Rick Case and Opa to name a couple, and the Mods...:)Mark

Mark I think it would be very powerful to have export and import to CSV available.I do most of my thinking in a spreadsheet! It would be especially good for what I have in mind,e.g. getting all those Italian sceneries randomly added over time, together. While I fiddled with the programme, I found some apparently dead-end "What then?" options with these highlighted items:HJCAP896.jpgWhat's your thinking with them?

That functionality was to simply make it easier to see what you've got in the file. I often use Find when I'm not sure if a scenery has been installed or where it is in relationship to the other entries. It's sometimes easier to read in a vertical format. The same goes for the exporting functions. The exporting functions also enables someone to import the info into a database as well as a spreadsheet. Select All and Copy all will copy the entire grid's contents to the clipboard along with the title row. Again, I wasn't sure how people would want to use it other then make it easier to see if there is something that you'd like to change. So none of that functionality can be useful or then again, maybe it can. They don't impede the performance of the mini-app and I thought that I'd include them just in case someone would find them useful. For the most part, I use the Find function the most...for now...but the other functionality may come into play with a couple of other utilities I have in mind. More on that later :)Mark

One more note about Find. If you name you're sceneries with some type of naming convention you can generate a list of areas. For instance, I put the state name in the title of the sceneries I install for the U.S. So if I ever wanted to know how many airports are in California, I can get a list. I'm a creature of habit and have written so many databases, that I organize things that way. Just in case...I think I will add the ability to import a CSV file..it's a good suggestion and believe me I had already considered it. I just wasn't sure if anyone would use it or wanted it. So maybe it was a good idea for me to leave the export stuff in there so people could see the possibilities and decide. I have actually written a Tree/List Windows Explorer type app for this file and I found that it just becomes too organized. In other words, you can spend way to much time navigating the interface...it just didn't seem worth it to me. The idea of the mini-app was just to be fast , easy, and get people used to what they actually have in their scenery file. Oh, and get a backup of the original file after renumbering it.Mark

Hey WingZ...PM me with you're email address when you get the chance. I'm hoping that you beta test the Excel enabled version when it's done. Now I've got a couple of commitments to keep this week and I'm sure that it will take me at least a full business day to write the import. I'm looking at next Monday, (if nothing comes up), before I can get it ready for a beta. I hope that you're willing to help with this, I mean, if you do we can customize it the way you might think that people would like to use it. I'll put my two cents in as well :)Mark

OK PM sent, I'm quite looking forward to this...Next step will be to write direct into the FS database itself ;)One of the good features of FSX is that you can update its database without restarting the sim.Imagine if you could do that with FS9!
