Renumber Scenery Config v1.2.0

Featured Replies

Has anyone seen or used my Renumber Scenery Config mini-app? The reason that I'm asking is that I'm going to start coding it in C++ for both Win32 and Win64. I had the VB6 version for years and it worked so well that I just kept using it. I also wanted to release a completed thought/version for people who didn't want to install the huge dotnet runtimes. So now that its out there and the proof of concept is about complete, I'd really enjoin in some feedback as I write the new version, that is, if anyone even cares or even wants it. Let me know you're thoughts and don't pull any punches :)Mark

I am running Windows 7 64 and have no problems. It appears to work normally. So far I like what I see. Keep up the good work.

Still using Win XP and FS2004 - and your config renumber. Took me a few minutes to figure out how to use it . . but after I did . . . I like it! It works great.

Yeah, I suck at writing help files...Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. You know what I forgot to put in the thing...the difference between scenery priority and the Area/Layer number...duh!Mark

Thank you!...If you get the chance then tell the group how to install it...Mark

I don't know that I'm any better at giving instructions, but here goes:1.Unzip the VB6 files and run the installation program.2. Go to the RSC 1.2 folder.3. Run the RSC application file.4. You will get a screen that shows the program. Set your application path to your main Flight Sim folder.5. Scroll down to the scenery config file.6. If you want renumber, simply push the button for renumber. This worked for me.

That's one way. Another would be to make a copy of the Scenery.cfg file and put it in the FS9 Renumber folder. Then renumber it there and then copy it back to the folder where FS9 is looking to load it. Either way works for me...Mark

OK I know this is plain lazy - I have it downloaded, but never got round to installing it.When would you want to renumber the SC file?

It's been years since I've used the FS interface to add a scenery. It seems to be a bit slow to me...having to keep clicking the up or down arrow to move a scenery. I think that it can mess with the layer numbers if you don't watch what you're doing as well. So what I do, (and keep in mind this is just me), I like to use a text editor to make adds/moves/changes to the scenery file. With the text editor method, I can also move entire blocks of scenery areas at the same time. So for instance, if I wanted to see if FSGlobal 2010 works better at a low priority or the highest priority. I can cut and paste all eight of the FSGlobal scenery areas to either the top or the bottom of the scenery file. Then I simply renumber the file to keep all of the areas and layer numbers in sequence. It takes about 1 minute to make the change and I get a backup copy of the file as well. But if I did it without the renumbering tool, that would mean that there would be 8 area sequences missing if I just yanked them out of where ever they were and put them someplace else. I would also have to renumber the FSGlobal areas after I moved them. So its a bunch of tedious work that would seem to be better left to an app IMHO...Mark

Mark, I'm sure that explanation helped all the other lazy ones too!I have blocks of sceneries which I'd like to consolidate, and I think this is just the ticket. Thanks for doing this.EDIT:OK so I exported the data to a CSV where I sorted the entries by title, which will do for now.How do you get it back into your programme for renumbering?

I don't output it to a CSV . . . I just click the VIEW button. That opens it up in notepad. Cut & paste to do what you want. Then close/save notepad. The renumber program sees that the .cfg has been changed and asks if you want to renumber. Yep! Then copy the "new" .cfg to FS. Works for me! Neat li'l program. :(

I didn't add any support to import CSV files, just to export them. I was considering it but wasn't sure if anyone would use that feature or not. If you think that is another way to make things easier then I would mind adding it. To be honest, I'd rather write it in the VB6 version first, before I code it in C++.Mark

Thanks! You know, I always have my hand on Ctrl + D after I renumber. It opens up the folder where you last renumbered the Scenery.cfg file...Mark

Another note on this app. If you have a different text editor associated with the Scenery.cfg file or CFG files in general, this app should be using that editor to open up the file. I have TextPad associated with the Scenery.cfg file and it cracks it open instead of Notepad. I would love hear if that is working for others as well.Mark

No, not "all the other lazy ones" yet. Where did you say the link to this little program was? :( Cheers,Dirk.
