June 9, 201015 yr If you are currently overclocking, no point. If not, yes. But if you don't overclock, you should.Another point of view, is it worth it moneywise? No. The performance jump won't be as high as you would hope (2,66-3,2). There is much bigger performance differential when doing 4.2. Going from 3.2 to 4.2 is easier than 2.66 to 4.2, that's for sure. You could expect some 15% performance increase. Doing 30fps, will differ to about 34-35fps. NOT 500 pounds worth imo...
June 10, 201015 yr Author Hi Word Not Allowed Thanks for your advice. As i write i have just finished vewing a tutorial on you tube about overclocking. In the past i have always kept away from it as i was scared i might end up damageing my system. I will keep my fingers crossed that everything goes ok. thanks again. regards shaun
June 10, 201015 yr Register and go through xtremesystems forums. They are guys that know inside and outside of overclocking. There are even some fixed settings that are gonna get you up and running at a very high clock in no time. I can only say one thing: temperature is your enemy. Always have to monitor it!http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/index.php
June 10, 201015 yr For FSX performance you are far better off investing in a really good CPU cooler (recommendations anyone?) along with the fastest RAM (no slower than 1600 cas 6) you can get, and then overclock that 920 as recommended by Word Not Allowed. 4ghz or higher, for sure! CPU: AMD 9800X3D PBO MB +200 CO -25| Motherboard: MSI MAG X870e Tomahawk WiFi | GPU: MSI RTX 5090 Ventus 3X OC | RAM: G.Skill 2x32GB DDR5 6000 cas 30 | M.2 SSDs: Samsung 990 EVO Plus 2T, WD Black SN750 M.2 1T | Hard Drive: WD Black HDD 6T 7200 | Optical Drive: LG Bluray writer, internal | Cooling: Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 EVO | Case: Fractal Design Focus G | PSU: NZXT C1200 1200W Win 11 Pro 64|HP Reverb G2 revised VR HMD|Asus 25" IPS 2K 60Hz monitor|Saitek X52 Pro & Peddles|TIR 5 (now retired)
June 13, 201015 yr Or even go watercooling, which will give you both silent AND great overclocking potential. It's a one time investment, if you are into it.
