Anyone else think scenery and mesh look weaker in FS9?

Recommended Posts

I sure do--this week anyway! Maybe it's a case of getting used to it, but my impression is that overall the textures look better in FS2K2. I was using landclass update, antogenius, etc with FS2K2Noel

Hi Noel,Yes you may well be correct. One of my priorities was to reinstall Lago's Terrain Mesh for the UK. I live close to Edinburgh (EGPH) and in FS2002 the elevation rendition of the Pentland Hills is uncannily accurate and also when seen in profile from familiar spots at ground level. The same is not true of FS2004. I get the impression that the hills seem further away when viewed from the airport and the contours don't convey the same sense of realism as they did in FS2k2 - even when the slider is at 100. Somewhat disappointing to say the least. There is no doubt that this new version of our favourite sim has a great deal to offer and I do like it very much. However, I can safely say that FS2k2 with all it's numerous 3rd party enhancements will remain on my HD for some time to come in the hope that most, if not all, of the issues that concern me most will eventually be corrected by the army of enthusiasts out there. This was not the case with the release of FS2k2 - FS2k came off within a couple of weeks.Frustrating, isn't it?!Mike

Dun't know what's wrong. Textures look better on my system and the mesh looks at least as good as it did in FS2002. Try setting TERRAIN_MAX_VERTEX_LEVEL=21 in the .cfg file if you haven't.
