AI Traffic not working?

Recommended Posts

Hi,I'm pretty familiar with the mfs series although I seem unable to cure this problem. The problem is that there are no aircraft in the skies (or close to none--2 or 3 at most) besides myself. Why is the happening?I have the bar in the settings of fsx set for maximum air traffic, but it seems that this action has no effect. Moreover, I got everything from: http://www.world-of-ai.com/ That means I installed the downloader and numerous airlines, but i see none in the game. Initially, I did see quite a few (several months ago) but I can not figure out what has changed since then.If you have any ideas or suggestions please dont hesistate to ask.Thank you,airindia16

I had a similar problem, both with woai and even the default traffic. It got fixed when I completely deleted every FSX file on my computer and uninstalled/reinstalled again. Still, there is not as much traffic as I had in FS9, but I think I saw somewhere online, that when you load into an FS9 airport, all aircraft that were supposed to takeoff 15 minutes ago are at the gate to create the illusion of a lot of traffic. Since I am still getting less traffic than in FS9, I suspect that FSX doesn't do this effect as in FS9. Also, try converting the WOAI BGL traffic files to the FSX format using the program ai flight planner. Anyways, here is the thread I started with my problem:http://forums1.avsim.net/index.php?showtopic=285951

Wow! That sounds intense! But thank you for the swift response; I will check it all out and see what helps and then post it back here. Should i try the custom setting reccomendation you gave first because reinstalling sounds like a hassle (which is because I have had to do it more than once--not fun when you have quite a lot of planes in the simobjects/aircraft folder)? Thanks again though,airindia16P.S. quite amazing that we had the same problem because I also get disappointed after watching youtube videos and seeing how amazing they are in comparison to my own fs!

If you are using WOAI traffic, which are FS9 traffic files. Make sure you have no FSX traffic files active. FSX can only handle one or the other, not both. If you still want to use FSX traffic files as well, you need to convert the WOAI FS9 files to FSX traffic format. There a a few converters in the library to do this.

Thanks

Definitely try converting the traffic files as tf51d and I recommended before reinstalling the game. Here is a link to the converter I used:http://members.shaw.ca/aifp/If you do decide to reinstall the game, follow the link from the PMDG website which shows you how to cleanly and completely uninstall everything FSX related to ensure whatever problem you have is fixed.http://support.precisionmanuals.com/KB/a87...nstall-fsx.aspxGood luck.

I apologize for sounding so childish and stupid but could give me a step-by-step if possible of how to convert these files. I just do not want to mess up and end up ruining my entire game. Thank you infinitely.

1. Download the program ai flight planner at the link I provided.2. Extract the contents of the downloaded folder (extract to desktop so windows automatically puts the contents into a new, uncompressed folder.)3. To ensure no problems in windows 7 or vista, right click on the application (.exe) Ai Flight Planner, in the folder you extracted. Click on properties, then compatibility, and check the option "run this program as an administrator." (This will allow you to run the application as an administrator every time.)4. Run the application.5. In the application go to files>convert fs9 traffic files to fsx.6. Navigate to your main FSX install folder. Once here, go to scenery>world>scenery, to find the WOAI traffic BGL files.7. There is an option that says add FSX suffix to the converted FSX traffic files. You can check this if you want to keep the default fs9-format WOAI traffic files and the converted ones and want to identify which one is which, but what I do is uncheck this, and place the converted files in the root FSX folder>scenery>world>scenery. This way, the converted files will automatically replace the previous FS9 format ones which I don't need.8. Once you click convert, you will have to navigate to the place where you want to place the converted files in. As I said, I just place them in the root FSX folder>scenery>world>scenery folder. You have to eventually place them here so the sim can read them. That is why I uncheck the FSX suffix option, because you have to eventually place the converted BGL files in the root FSX folder>scenery>world>scenery. If you leave the FSX suffix, then the old fs9 format files won't be deleted and the sim will just read the FS9 files over the FSX ones. So you either have to do what I do, move the old fs9 format traffic files to another location once you have converted them to FSX format, or, once you have converted them to FSX format, delete them so the sim will read the FSX ones.9. You might notice that since the traffic files are in FSX format, the default FSX traffic will appear. If you only want real traffic, rename the file trafficAircraft.bgl to trafficAircraft.bgl.bak, so the sim won't read them.If you have any questions on the steps, ask me.

Thank you for your time. As i ran through it, it made sense. At step five however, i couldnt fully expand my C drive in which the fsxs main folder is; what am i doing wrong? you can see my dilemma in the screenshot

Do you try running the program as an administrator via the option I told you? If that did not work try right clicking on the application and selecting run as... and select administrator. If that does not work try closing FSX. Maybe the program can't access any FSX files if it is open. One question, did you install FSX in the default location? If not can you tell me where you installed it. If what I previously said works, then don't tell me. Keep on posting so I can see if you have any more problems.

okay so i followed the steps and yes I forgot the administrator setting. It worked and when i played fsx, there were only the default liveries although numerous planes (but i couldnt seem to spot them from my plane--parked on runway 27 at o'hare in chicago...)So then i changed trafficAircraft.bgl to trafficAircraft.bgl.bak. after this step, I was left with two airplanes: continental and Ted, that was it! I even have the traffic set to 100%. The only possible doubt could be with the renaming because the file trafficAircraft.bgl was only called trafficAircraft (i understand where the .bgl comes from) so I renamed it to trafficAircraft.bgl.bak; i'm not sure if this changes anything but i thought i'd just point it out.So what am i doing wrong?thank you very muchairindia16

So from what I understand, you only had the default aircraft and no WOAI. Are you sure you placed the converted files in the root FSX>scenery>world>scenery folder? What renaming the file does is eliminate the default FSX traffic (the sim can't read them anymore until you erase the .bak file extension). That is why you didn't see any more default aircraft once renaming it. Once again, this is optional; if you want, you can keep the default aircraft. Can you post a picture of your aircraft at this airport- KFLL, so I can compare with my sim. Make sure you have your O.S. set to display file extensions, not to hide them as Vista and 7 do, for ease of explanation.

Air India, here is a picture of my FSX at the airport KFLL with 100% traffic sliders:Please post an overhead picture if you can of you at this airport at 6:14 PM today june 22nd. Also, you can notice that one terminal is completely empty. It eventually will get some aircraft as the AI aircraft land, but it is not filled I think because FSX doesn't support the "burst" AI traffic effect that I told you yesterday about. Anyways, please post an overhead picture of you at this airport at the time and date so I can compare with mine.*I have all General Aviation WOAI packages + these main ones that serve KFLL:Spririt AirlinesSouthwest AirlinesAirtran AirwaysDeltaJetblueContinentalAmerican airlinesAir JamaicaU.S. airwaysUnitedWestJet

no i DO have woai aircraft but only a few of them are appearing, and I did exactly the instructions you gave.

ohkay here it is; i have both a picture of my slider settings and the top-down view at Fort Lauterdale gate b 5, in it you can see that there are no other aircraft.

Okay I just remembered that WOAI doesn't support DX10 so make sure you have that disabled. Also, the WOAI aircraft don't show up during the daytime because they don't support one of the shadow options during the day. Try disabling DX10 preview and/or going to an airport during the night time. I'll get back to you on the option you have to disable.Okay, you have to go to in FSX to settings>aircraft, and make sure you have both aircraft casts shadows on the ground and aircraft casts shadows on itself disabled. WOAI planes don't support this feature. A way to check if this is the problem is opening up in the sim at nightime.
