June 22, 201015 yr All,Just coming back into the FSX world. What is the latest with Aerosoft 2012? I visited their forum and they haven't provided any recent developments. One of the questions riased over there however was the age of FSX gaming engine. Is a new gaming engine the cure for FSX?Tim
June 22, 201015 yr It's fine with me that someone is trying to make a new sim, but I am certainly not going to wait for it. I don't feel like looking forward to something that won't be released in at least a year or so (probably a lot more), specially since FSX with all the addons offers more than AFS2012 will offer right out of the box, I am sure.
June 22, 201015 yr I suspect that Aerosoft may have problems with funding. FSX and X-Plane are already on the market, and there are strong rumours that Microsoft is developing a new flight simulator. Investors will be reluctant to put-up money for another flight simulator in this situation. Gerry Howard
June 22, 201015 yr It's all gone a bit quiet with regard to the Aerosoft Sim, but in its favour, Aerosoft are involved in a fair bit of professional-level products too, so they don't necessarily have to rely merely on the notion of getting revenue purely from an entertainment title which comes from the development work they might involve themselves in. Two revenue streams from one bit of work may make it more of a viable proposition.A classic example of that in the commercial entertainment PC flight sim world was the IFR navigation training software which came out years ago under the Just Flight banner, aimed at simmers. It was basically exactly the same product that the RAF used for training their navigators on the same stuff, where it was simply marketed as a professional training tool.Al Alan Bradbury Check out my youtube flight sim videos: Here
June 23, 201015 yr How would FSX run today if it had a 2010 gaming engine?TimProbably very, very bad.FS has almost always been programmed for 'future hardware' (another way of saying it hasn't been optimized very well :( ). So if they made a version this year, it probably wouldn't run too well on this years hardware... It wasn't until this year that I read about people being able to run FSX with almost all settings high! So a version with a 2010 gaming engine probably would have run well on hardware from 2014, I guess. :(
