GA Pitch Attitude

Featured Replies

I know the SOP is to push the GA Button prior to departure but whats the point? SOP calls for 70 kts V1 VR then Pitch to maintain VY until 1500' then 170KIAS right? Well what airspeed is the FD pitching for in the GA Mode? Wouldn't it make more sense to set IAS Mode (using the calculated VY) and follow the FD commands that way? I learned that if you where going to use the FD; then set it and follow it, otherwise turn it off....its a distraction if your not following what it is telling you too. I just have been following FS2Crew's SOP's and I just dont understand what to do. Thanks.Ron Hamilton

IAS mode maintains airspeed by changing pitch. If you are below target speed, the AP pitches down. This is not something you want to happen while you are attempting to take off. AOM Ch041:61 D) Go-Around button (1) Depress the go-around button on the left power lever if the FD is to be used for takeoff. AOM Ch0811:50 11. Go-Around (GA)Momentary operation of the GA switch on the left POWER lever causes the FCC to engage the GA mode and cancel all other selected modes. The FCC produces commands to achieve a wing level, approximately 8 deg pitch up.

Thanks...so just a 8 degree pitch eh, very well. Thanks for the info.Ron Hamilton

I don't stick it to Vy on initial climb, once I have 1000 fpm (or 1200 if light) I'll hold that with V/S mode until accelerated to 170 then hold her there with IAS mode. Makes for a very smooth departure and is safe enough.
