July 8, 201015 yr greetings,I was hoping someone could help me understand priority in the library. I have googled this, but still sooo confused. It's my understanding that the higher numbers are first in priority and if that is the case, why do some addons say to place x above y for a higher priority? When they say above does that mean below?
July 8, 201015 yr Think of a contest winner,Which is "highest": First place at the top of the list (low number) or further down at 10th place , a higher number but lower in esteem?Higher on the list with a lower number is obviously the better place to be...Loyd Hooked since FS4... now flying: FSX Acceleration on Win7/64, Core Duo E8400; GA-EP45-DS3R; GTX 460-768MB; 4G RAM; Freezer 7 Pro
July 8, 201015 yr Commercial Member It can mean either, depending on how you look at it. For my customers, it does really depend on how familiar they are with the process. If they have a good understanding of the scenery library, and know what the actual scenery.cfg looks like, then I can talk in terms of higher or lower priority, but many customers are not into that at all, in which case I tend to deal with the actual Scenery Library as it appears in FS. In this case I talk about 'up' and 'down' the list, controlled by the up and down buttons. So higher up the list means lower priority:) The the trick to explaining a particular priority is to make the frame of reference clear. If I suspect that there could be some confusion, I sort out the meaning first, and sometimes I use both -- along the lines of "give it a higher priority, which means lower on the scenery library list.'

I have googled this, but still sooo confused. It's my understanding that the higher numbers are first in priority and if that is the case, why do some addons say to place x above y for a higher priority? When they say above does that mean below?I think that the confusion arises in the fact that the LOWER the number in the FSX Scenery Library settings the HIGHER the priority. So scenery in PRIORITY 1 in the Scenery Library has a HIGHER priority than scenery at PRIORITY 20 for example. So ABOVE means put it at a LOWER number ie ABOVE (nearer to 1) the scenery referred to. I Tongass X installed on my system and in the scenery library it has:Priority 3 Tongass_Fjords_Higher_ Priority and at Priority 4 Tongass_Fjords_Lower_ Priority It took me ages to work that one out! :( RegardsPeterH

I have googled this, but still sooo confused. It's my understanding that the higher numbers are first in priority and if that is the case, why do some addons say to place x above y for a higher priority? When they say above does that mean below? It's confusing because when you look at the "scenery library" in the sim, you see one ordering with the top of the list being the highest priority, while if you look at the file scenery.cfg you see the highest priority scenery normally at the end of the file, and the larger the "Layer=" number the higher the priority.I guess it's assumed if you are going to directly edit scenery.cfg you understand the system, in all cases I have seen when a scenery addon dev says "place above" he means higher in the list as seen in the scenery library, thus having a higher priority. Or you could say, PRIORITY in SCENERY LIBRARY = (total scenery areas - SCENERY.CFG LAYER) +1scott s..
