Minimum Processes and Startup Items to Run FS9?

Featured Replies

I recently bought an Asus 1005PE netbook. It now has Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit and I've installed FS9. However, due to processor and RAM limitations (Intel Atom N450 and 2GB RAM), I want to disable all processes and startup items that do not benefit FS9.The best program I have found to do that is a free one called AlacrityPC as it permits you to close the startup items and processes you don't need and restart them afterward without rebooting. It comes in a 32-bit and 64-bit versions and works fine with Vista and Win7. However, I still need to find a list of essential processes and startup items for FS9 to operate well.Has anyone seen such a list? ------------------------ Info on AlacrityPC --------------------------AlacrityPC (32 and 64 bit), v1.0.2, 20 April 2009, http://alacritypc.kensalter.com AlacrityPC User Manual (aussie en Fran

http://www.blackviper.com/Windows_7/servicecfg.htmThis site is very reliable. I've been using their guides and it has never bricked my PC. But be very careful and double check that you've shut the right processes. Disabling the wrong ones can leak to bad things....-feng

Seems like a nice site. However, I still need to find a list of the minimum processes and startup items to run FS9. There does not seen to be any tutorial or article on it. Probably because most people using it prefer more powerful computers.Has anyone seen such a list?

Hello,You can easy make this list yourself in some minutes pup.gifALT CTRL DEL and you are in the managerCheck the "process"TAB and terminate one process and test if FS2004 will run ...And proceed to the next one ...Some process will refuse to terminate as they are absolutely needed by the OSIn any case it's no danger...If all freeze ... just make a rest of the PCIf you are style "all go wrong when I use a PC or you think you are a victim of the Murphy law" sarcastic.gif ... make a restore point before beginning your experiments ...People will have different list as they use differents hardwares .. softwares or OS ... so such list is useless to be posted here ..This what is running on my PC (WinXP) when I play FS2004 .. less some as I'm actually online and a capture tool and a emoticon soft are also running ... I'm sure it's no help for you ....2zybiv5.jpgRegards.bye.gifGus.

I use Ken Salter's Alacrity program to stop processes and start up flight simulator. It comes with default process shut down profiles for XP and Vista. Not sure if it's here in the lirary or at Flightsim.com Do a google search for it --

Hi Guys,About a year ago I got hold of the program called AutoStart and installed it for use with my FS9. Well, technically speaking it seems to work correctly by shutting down a multitude of background services and other programs while, after terminating FS9, the program automatically restarts everything again. Fantastic !!However, only one problem remained: I didn't notice any FS9 frame rate increase whatsoever during any of my subsequent tests. If it's an optimal FS frame rate you're after (like me) then there are other more important possibilities like:Use separate sound and/or graphic cards. Switch off any such hardware possibly incorporated on your motherboard.Disconnect from the internet and switch off your firewall and virus scanner during FS runs.Defragment regularly.Run a program like: C-Cleaner, regularly.Run programs like: Registry Mechanic or RegSupreme regularly. Discard all non functional "ballast" from installed addons.Good luckHans

Now, I have a new machine (only spent $1,100 to have it built) which runs FS9 like a champ and I can eliminate all of the above. Free, free at last! :( gwillmot

Shipping was $65.00 and I chose to have it professionally cabled and packed for an extra fee. The above total came to $1190.75 which included shipping and the extra fees for wiring and packing.I am not an "agent" for this company, but have been quite pleased with their service. Equipment arrived ready to fire up and load my "stuff" from my old computer.I found a program (laplink PCMover Home) which allowed me to transfer all files, programs, and operating system to my new computer without having to reload in all my programs and operating system. This worked for 99.5% of all my applications. They also have a program which allows direct migration from WinXP to Win7 should I ever choose to do so.Hope all this helps someone who wants to upgrade. Again, I'm not shilling for anyone that I've listed, just my personal finds and observations.I have computer locked at 30 fps. It does tumble to mid-20's around my payware airports with NO additional processes shut down. I do still take a hit with heavy cloud cover (only when I'm in the "middle" of them - I like flying through heavy weather).gwillmot

Thank you! - that's some great information! And it sounds like you got a great box and a good deal. I have all the same performance/symptoms - my specs are below.FYI: I have all but eliminated the the dreaded cloud FPS rate hit by purchasing Real Environment Extreme. I've also been able to created the most beautiful and realistic skies I've ever seen in FS9.Thanks again and TTYL!
