July 22, 201015 yr Sorry to post about another Simconnect connection error but after 3 days of searching the 'Net I'm shell shocked.I am trying to set up Simconnect so I can use Squwakbox with FSX but when I try the AI test all I get is the command prompt window open for a few seconds then it closes, no messages in the window. If I try to run Squwakbox I get "Simconnect error. You cannot connect without Flight Simulator running"I assume Simconnect is installed correctly on the FSXAcceleration PC because I can see the Simconnect 'Tools' item in the FSX menu bar.I have 2 PCs on my LAN, both with static addresses and they are connected via a Belkin router. The FSX PC has Windows firewall enabled and the other PC has PCTools firewall enabled.AKAIK I have installed Simconnect correctly on both PCs and correctly set up Simconnect.cfg, simconnect.xml & simconnect.ini which is on the FSX PC. Ports 500 & 6811 are set in simconnect.cfgI have the following 3 versions of simconnect files in c:\windows\winsxs on both PCs.10.0.60905.0, 10.0.61242.0 & 10.0.61259.0I think I have opened ports 500, & 6811 but not sure. Would this cause a problem, is there a way to check and should they be open on the FSX PC, the other PC or both?I have run netstat -a on both PCs but neither port 500 nor 6811 was in the list.I have tried the AI test with both firewalls disabled.Any help would be greatly appreciated and if you need any more information please ask.TIA
July 26, 201015 yr Hi,can you tell what you installed on both machines? Can you post the xml and cfg files content?
July 27, 201015 yr Author Hi,can you tell what you installed on both machines? Can you post the xml and cfg files content? Both PCs are running XP Pro and are in the same Workgroup.FSX Acceleration, SDK from FSX Deluxe, SDK SP1a and SDK2 from FSX Acceleration are installed on 192.168.2.3.The same SDK client files are installed, from the corresponding lib folders, to 192.168.2.2Attached (I hope) are my SimConnect.xml anad SimConnect.cfg files.
July 27, 201015 yr Hi, files look rather strange... :( . Copy and paste the following content into the files to replace the current content:simconnect.xml:<?xml version="1.0" encoding="Windows-1252" ?><SimBase.Document Type="SimConnect" version="1,0"><Descr>SimConnect</Descr><Filename>SimConnect.xml</Filename><Disabled>False</Disabled><SimConnect.Comm> <Disabled>False</Disabled> <Protocol>IPv4</Protocol> <Scope>global</Scope> <Address>192.168.2.3</Address> <Port>6600</Port> <MaxClients>10</MaxClients> <MaxRecvSize>8192</MaxRecvSize> <DisableNagle>True</DisableNagle></SimConnect.Comm></SimBase.Document> simconnect.cfg[simconnect]protocol=IPv4Address=192.168.2.3Port=6600MaxRecieveSize=8192DisableNagle=1Store the xml file in the same directory as your fsx.cfg file on the 2.3 and the cfg in your documents folder on the 2.2If you want, you can change the portnumber, but it should be good when you're using the MS firewall.start fsx first on the 2.3, the SB on the 2.2. Good luck!
July 27, 201015 yr Author Thanks for the help but still no connection even with both firewalls disabled :( Simconnect.xml & cfg files changed.Start SB4 and try to connect same error as before "Simconnect error. You cannot connect without Flight Simulator running. Confirm Flight Simulator is running"If I run the AITraffic.exe from client PC the command window opens briefly then closes.I do get a simconnect.log file generated on the server PC.
July 27, 201015 yr Do you start fsx before running SB on the 2.2??OK show us the logfile. Could you download a freeware program called currports. It shows us the IP port usage. Install on the 2.2 Run currports and start SB. Are new connections (ports) opened? (Press F5 in Currports to refresh the screen).Last question: I assume the systems can see each other on the network? (shared folders etc)
July 27, 201015 yr I had another brainfart :( , run currport on the 2.3 and open FSX. You should see the simconnectport opened in listening state. Do you see that?
July 27, 201015 yr Author I had another brainfart :( , run currport on the 2.3 and open FSX. You should see the simconnectport opened in listening state. Do you see that?Sb4 now working :( but I can't say 'problem solved' because I haven't changed any settings since my last post :(I dug out my old ASX program and thought I would install that just to see what would happen and hoping it might throw up more informative error reports, instead of which it just worked.I then tried SB4 and the AITraffic test and they both worked....go figure. However being the skeptic I am, I fully expect one or both to stop working mid flight :( Keeszondag (shame you don't have a real name B) ) many thanks for your efforts and help, sorry I couldn't post a definitive reason for it working.
July 27, 201015 yr Actually that is my real name (glued together) Happy flying! You can always run currports to see what happens. It is possible that ASX opened the connection via simconnect where the other programs aren't capable. It happened before...
July 27, 201015 yr Author Ooops :( , sorry Kee , or Kees.I will make a note of 'currport for future reference but won't tempt fate by running it now :(
