July 25, 201015 yr Will RCv5 implement the U.S FSS system in any way? In their airspace system, it's quite a big help when flying VFR :(
July 25, 201015 yr It has been quite a while since I've flown VFR as a CPL cross country. I also had but did not complete IFR training.FSS provided weather enroute and at destination plus a NOTAMS database. They also provided route advisories, etc.You can now in RC4 depart from uncontrolled fields by filing IFR with FSS. RC5 will provide that for IFR and VFR. You'll activate from the air within a time limit. Perhaps if you don't cancel or close your VFR plan within the allowed limits of your estimated arrival time they might start a VOR communications search but at this time I doubt it.You can now get weather via FSS on the menu for departure and destination when close enough. What are you looking for?
July 26, 201015 yr Author Something like what we have for IFR now but for VFR as well.. wow, you guys certainly have an eye for detail.. this and SuperATC will rock...
July 26, 201015 yr In flight traffic advisories are in RC4 now. I would imagine in flight following they would continue. Flight following is planned at this time in RC5 (otherwise there wouldn't be any reason for RC VFR except for tower stuff) The idea is to transition between controlled or VFR as needed/requested during the flight. How much will be available in the first incarnation will be described when near release.NOTAMS (in the real world sense), other than runway closures in a future incremental version, has no basis in FS that I can think of. That data is there for runway closures as noted in the afd airport files, mostly in add-on scenery. Notams and traffic advisories for VFR in RC5?Yay!!Thanks chaps.
July 27, 201015 yr Author Radar vectoring in VFR in U.S. Class B airspace to sequence you to the airport when VFR would be pretty cool, too. They usually set you up on downwind and have you call tower whichafter you proceed in the pattern on your own.

July 27, 201015 yr Author I hope it's markedly better than the default ATC..which just sucks. I'm looking forward to arriving in a GA plane, canceling IFR and proceeding to land under VFR without RC quitting like it does with 4. This thing is, particularly with the advent of vfr, becoming a true replacement ATC system, not "just" an IFR enhancement. It seems that even though disabled I might just get at least a PPL, in that case RC5 and future versions will be a major training aid.. when you know its limits...
