September 8, 201015 yr Author So I completely uninstalled all texture enhancement addons:No bufferpools:Frames, Time (ms), Min, Max, Avg 11602, 300000, 24, 66, 38.673With BP=0Frames, Time (ms), Min, Max, Avg 12564, 300000, 25, 70, 41.880
September 8, 201015 yr So are those results better or worse than mine? And I'm really not following in terms of the momory, can you explain what the results are so far... and how its affecting FSX. Bangoman has DDR3 right?
September 8, 201015 yr Yes bangoman has DDR3-1333. I'm confused too. I think the i3 and i5 are quite similar in performance, a few frames here and there. The i5 gives out higher maximums. And we can seriously see the benefits of triple channel RAM in terms of pure data transfer. Compare your i7 memory bandwidth @ 1070 mhz as in the picture here (http://forum.avsim.net/index.php?app=core&module=attach§ion=attach&attach_rel_module=post&attach_id=21451) vs my i3 memory @ 1333mhz (http://img26.imageshack.us/i/memaxx77721stock.jpg/).I'm sure the triple channel memory is one factor amongst many, including the system bus 4.8gt/s of QPI/i7 vs 2.5gt/s of DMI/i3/i5. 5600x, 6800xt, Samsung Odyssey HMD+
September 8, 201015 yr Author single channel and vanilla ram speeds:Frames, Time (ms), Min, Max, Avg 11001, 300000, 22, 61, 36.670still same results
September 9, 201015 yr Why does My RAM say 1000Mhz it's rated at 1600Mhz, going to the BIOS, be right back with a new test.
September 9, 201015 yr Author does that include lynnfields? very interesting system bus 4.8gt/s of QPI/i7 vs 2.5gt/s of DMI/i3/i5. Why does My RAM say 1000Mhz it's rated at 1600Mhz, going to the BIOS, be right back with a new test.your mobo will default your ram to lower speeds than it's rated ones. It happens all the time.
September 9, 201015 yr I might test the FP/S on global high again since yesterday the RAM wasn't at 1600Mhz
September 9, 201015 yr My info is from the link below. Just did some reading on wikipedia about QPI and DMI. QPI on the i7 seems to have an advantage at shifting data around from CPU to everything else. Whether this translates into better FSX performance I have no idea, but we've isolated memory as a cause for the differing performance, haven't we? Looking at the other differences on the chart below, it's not HT (see no difference whether HT is on or not), it's not the number of cores (otherwise the i5 and i7 would be more similar), it's might be the triple channel RAM (unlikely looking at the data above).http://ark.intel.com/Compare.aspx?ids=46473,42915,41447luckyman - is your i7 totally at stock? If so then I wonder how turbo boost is affecting performance? Is it just staying on 2 cores and using the other 2 to boost frequency? I might test the FP/S on global high again since yesterday the RAM wasn't at 1600MhzSo you can embarrass our poor i3/i5 even more ;-) In all seriousness, I would be very interested to see the effect of increased memory bandwidth on your system. 5600x, 6800xt, Samsung Odyssey HMD+

The GPU is what get the Frames high, the cpu is what keeps them there under high loads of scenery and weather. I don't think turbo boost is on. In fact I forgot to disable C1E but that dosn't matter when im playing FSX. I want to overclock to 4Ghz and then test again, but I only have the stock cooler. Any suggestions as far a a cooler, im liking the corsair H70. becasue Im on a micro board I can also think of another differnce, the HDDs Dazz has a 10 000 RPM I have 7200RPM and Bangoman has an SSD which is like 7 times faster
September 9, 201015 yr I love my Cooler Master Hyper 212 plus at C$30 and the review around the net love it too. Get it if you want a good budget cooler. Otherwise the general consensus seems to be the Noctua NH-D14 seems to be a favourite of the 1366 overclockers. I didn't get it because it costs almost as much as my CPU! But I think your CPU would be worthy of it. Be sure to check out the overclockers Intel forum. There is a great guide for it and the guys over there are very helpful and encouraging of newbies!http://www.overclock...display.php?f=2http://www.overclockers.com/updated-intel-overclocking-guides/Check out my thread, it's not that scary...http://www.overclock...ad.php?t=653981 5600x, 6800xt, Samsung Odyssey HMD+
September 9, 201015 yr Author the board size doesn't really matter as long as the case is big enough and the airflow is good. I really don't know now how good the H70 is compared to top notch air coolers price/performace wise, but the H50 is not so good so if your ram sticks allow you to, I would pick a Venomous, Megahalems or NH-D14 im liking the corsair H70. becasue Im on a micro board
September 9, 201015 yr The Noctua Nh-D14 would proably cover the whole motherboard. Is that ok for airflow? I love my Cooler Master Hyper 212 plus at C$30 and the review around the net love it too. September 9, 201015 yr I have an mATX board as well. The clearance between RAM and cooler is minimal so this might affect you too. However my RAM has some heat spreaders. Bit pointless though!http://img697.imageshack.us/i/imag0016xbThe guide is still well worth a read although I apologise if I insulted your oc skills!I have an mATX board as well.
