I keep repeating myself I should be flying instead of all this crap hahahaaddons: REX2, GEX, UTX, every single PMDG aircraft, FSL Concorde X, ASE, MyTraffic X, Ultimate Traffic (don't use it anymore)

All this benchmark stuff is pretty fun lolbtw dazz what addons do you have, maybe we could make our own benchmark, using addons,,,? Seems easy enough to do, just a saved flight.

Lol, its too late here anyway for me. It sucks we dont have any aircraft in common, Only REX2...

Unless we use a default a/c like the 744 but fly it through NYC with some REX thunder storm

With the understanding that I will either not OC at all or will only OC if it is made Barney the Dinosaur simple, what is the best i3 CPU to get? Is it as simple as saying "Get the most expensive one"?

That's never the way to go. I3 are Clarkdales, that includes the I5 600 series which are way more expensive than the I3 but still basically the same thingAs for I3's, there're 2 options, the 530 and the 540. The only difference is the extra multiplier and stock clocks (probably the 540's will be higher binned CPU's too, but YMMV). Depending on the price difference there you might want to get one or the other, but they are pretty much the same thing.OCIng those chips is a piece of cake, and it really pays off in FSX. Most of those Clarkdales overclock on the stock cooler to some 4GHz. That's a single 10 seconds BIOS tweak

There's the i3-550 as well. If you can get to an NCIX store there's this: http://forums.redfla...?prefixid=Comp9However, I would not get an i3 if you're not planning on overclocking it. If you're looking at stock speeds, save up some $$ and get an i7. I repeat, the i3 @ stock is rather useless IMO for FSX.Then again, overclocking the i3 is a piece of pi$ with a decent guide: http://www.overclockers.com/updated-intel-overclocking-guides/ there's also my thread: http://www.overclock...ad.php?t=653981I spent about $135 on my CPU i3-540 so it wasn't a big deal (to me) if I fried it. But with a big mug of tea, the Saturday afternoon football in the background, one can easily overlock with time and caution. Everyone has a first time!

NB Whatever system you get CanadaOne, run some of the "quick and dirty benches"Check here:http://forum.avsim.net/topic/292181-i3-530-fsx/page__view__findpost__p__1858730and here: http://forum.avsim.net/topic/292181-i3-530-fsx/page__view__findpost__p__1824691This process isn't perfect nor that demanding but what is interesting is that the results are reproducible as shown by Ivan and Luckyman so at least people have some idea of the gains for each price point.

Just reinstalled FSX on my new i3 system, and followed bangoman's initial settings. Running like a dream! Only paid £200 for the bundle which was an i3 540 @ 4.2ghz, MSI motherboard, Mushkin DDR3, and a Coolermaster Hyper TX3 cooler. The bundle was prebuilt and clocked, and guaranteed at that speed.Might actually get to play it how it was meant now, was a dog on my old Q6600.

It does indeedy :) I have been following them since 1990, and seen them live nearly 70 times, including the Blackpool Daytripper in 93, Cannock and Delamere Forest gigs, Blackpool Some Friendly 20th Anniversary gig. Have met Tim Burgess, Jon Brookes and Martin Blunt a few times too!Not really had a chance for an extended session, yet, possibly this weekend. Initial feelings are good tho, not seen any stuttering or lag yet.
