August 7, 201015 yr I'm just after some opinions on Airport Scenery packages for FSX. I don't really know much about this and am looking for some consrtuctive comment regarding effect on FPS,quality etc. Looking to upgrade some airports including EDDF on my system. Thanks Andrew Andrew Dixon"If common sense was compulsory everyone would have it but I am afraid this is not the case"

August 7, 201015 yr Any of the really good add-on airports will invariably come with installation options for various systems, for example, they might have choices with regard to whether they install static parked aircraft, or additional service vehicles driving around. This kind of thing is often what separates the especially good add-on sceneries from the merely 'okay' ones as far as gaining good performance in FSX goes.Ones that are particularly good in this regard (but certainly not alone in that) are the airport sceneries from UK2000, which are of course as the name suggests, UK airports, so if you are interested in flying from EDDF, then I should imagine flights to the UK are a definite possibility. Thus you might want to look at those. What is also worth a look (aside from AVSIM reviews), is customer reviews on sites that sell a variety of products, as opposed to simply going to the developer's website, where they are hardly likely to criticise their own products. This is often a good way to cut through the marketing blurb and get honest opinions. One particularly useful site for that, is www.simmarket.com where customers can put up mini reviews of products they have bought. You should be aware that there is nothing stopping a developer from putting a review on there pretending to be a satisfied customer saying that 'this product is bloody marvelous' or whatever, but by the same token there is nothing they can do to stop honest appraisals either, thus when there are twenty people saying 'this is crap' and one person saying 'this is great' it tends to be apparent what the truth is.Another site where such customer reviews appear, is www.fspilotshop.com (which incidentally, is often cheaper to buy from than simmarket, so shop around too whilst you are at it). Both FSpilotshop and simmarket are useful for keeping track of new products too, especially simmarket, since if you register there, when you visit and log on, it will cherry pick the new releases for you and display them on a few custom pages, so it is good for keeping abreast of what is new, and as far as sceneries for airports go, there are stacks of them on simmarket. One other place to look is Aerosoft. Being a German company, they have stacks of airport sceneries for 'ze fatherland', however, their site is not especially nice to navigate around, so you might want to be aware of that. So, they are a good company to buy from, but you might want to research their products on one of those other sites that have better page navigation. Note that Aerosoft occasionally have a few freebie airport sceneries on their site, for example, they just recently created a freeware FSX airfield scenery for Wasserkuppe, which is intended for people who bought their Discus glider for FSX (since Wasserkuppe is a legendary gliding airfield), but there is nothing stopping you grabbing it for free even if you don't have that glider.Al Alan Bradbury Check out my youtube flight sim videos: Here
