August 8, 201015 yr Hi,I'm seriously considering TrackIR but I have a couple of concerns due to my set-up. I have my sim projected on a high-def home cinema projector. This potentially creates three problems1) Interference from the light of the the projector lens towards the trackir camera2) With a hanging canvas screen I have no fixed point to mount the trackir to (the screen frame is way above head height)3) Being a large screen I would usually sit 4-5ft back from the screen which is further than the recomended range.Does anyone have a similar setup with obvious solutions? Possibilities which occur (which I need experienced user opinion on!) are sitting the receiver on the table under the screen (about waist height rather than head height) Or possibly mounting it on a pole/tripod somewhere between me and the screen (gets round 2 and 3). The only unknown then is problem (1).Any input/opinion greatly valued.CheersDave

It doesn't have to be a fully simulated flight deck with all the knobs and whistles, but merely the wood/plywood frame with the projector sitting on the roof and the TIR sensor attached to the top of the windshield frame.... I think this would be easy enough - some black/grey/beige paint and you're done! i7 [email protected] | 32GB RAM | EVGA RTX 3080Ti | Maximus Hero VII | 512GB 860 Pro | 512GB 850 Pro | 256GB 840 Pro | 2TB 860 QVO | 1TB 870 EVO | Seagate 3TB Cloud | EVGA 1000 GQ | Win10 Pro | EK Custom water cooling.

Maybe I can negotiate a compromise though!Cheers
August 9, 201015 yr Hi Dave - I have much the same setup as you. I bought Track IR and could not make it work. Putting it above the screen was too high/far away, and putting it lower and closer, on the desk where my controls are mounted didn't work either (too low). I never did find a solution, but just to confirm that the potential problems you have identified are very real !
August 17, 201015 yr You could also look at mounting it behind you, and inverting some of the camera axes.
August 18, 201015 yr Now that's an interesting idea Vince ! Is that just a theory, or has anyone actually done it ?
August 18, 201015 yr Yes I have, and had no problems at all. I had the Optoma Full HD, turned upside down, inverted the image via settings, and I had the sensor directly above the upper FOV (taped to the wall) and angled down slightly. I ran the wire along the wall down to the PC. I wore my baseball cap slightly raised on my forehead and all was fine, worked a treat. There was no interference from the light source either. Having the PJ upside down negates the use of keystone correction which decreases the resolution of the image. Keith Sandford.
August 18, 201015 yr I may have misunderstood (quite possible). I thought Vince was suggesting putting the TrackIR sensor on the wall behind you and inverting some of the camera (not projector) axes.I too have my PJ ceiling mounted and inverted, but I found putting the TrackIR sensor above the screen in front of me (about 9-10 ft away) didn't work in my environment. I guess it may be a case of try it and see. Not a cheap experiment though !
August 18, 201015 yr That's exactly what he was saying. I just stated that in order to project upside down then you need to invert the image via the PJ settings. No reference at all to inverting trackir axes. It does work. I was only 4 feet from the wall/display though. Keith Sandford.
