New hard drive

Featured Replies

Hi All Having just fitted my new 600 Gig WD Velociraptor hard drive and owning O&O defrag, i realy want to get the best out of both. I sat today and tried to understand the O&O manual which i did to an extent but has anyone got any links to an idiots guide on how to get the best out of the programe. I have two main bits of software on my hard drive, number 1, FSX which is the most used and number 2, Railworks. Can FSX be placed so that it will be the most efficient/fastest loaded. Regards Shaun

Assuming you have the latest version of O&O.I suggest you simply (After installing everything that you need to install on that hard disk), Select the hard disk you want to defrag and select "SPACE". This would keep each of your file intact as one piece and not defragmented. AFter this is complete, Reboot and then defrag again "Complete/NAME". This would now move the folders and files in Alphabetic orders. I usually name my scenery folders as A_xxx this way these are put on the outer most cylinders of the disk.Make sure you do not schedule any automatic defrag after you have done COMPLETE/Name defrag.Do this once in a while manually to keep your disk all fragmented. The way I have it set up is my C: drive only has the Win XP and the F: drive has my FSX and the H: drive has my addon scenery.

Hi Thanks for the sound advise. The naming of your folders, do you mean go inot your FS folder and rename them indivdually. Thanks Shaun
