O&O SSD Defrag

Featured Replies

Has anyone else received the newsletter from O&O regarding their new SSD defag software? Interesting since I read that defragging SSD was not good for the device.Comments?

It's a con job, my opinion of O&O has gone right down the toilet, they release updates more often than MS release windows updates and they expect you to pay for all these new updates that are little more than snake oil. SSD's do not need defragmenting no matter what anyone tells you, getting the sector size right is most important of all and if you have installed Windows 7 from the beginning rather than trying to clone a disk then you have nothing to worry about as its already sorted.

Cheers, Andy.

Actually O&O in their paper are saying exactly that: Fragmenting is useless on SSDs!They also say defragging an SSD will reduce its lifespan, which is also true.So what the new version of O&O Defrag does is automatically AVOID defragging SSDs! (And also automatically apply the TRIM command as necessary.)Of course you can also manually exclude SSDs from being defragged by O&O in the current version. So is the update worth the money?Your call!Cheers,- jahman.

Actually the previous couple of versions forcibily stops you from defragmenting an SSD by default until you click on a dialogue saying you are absolutely certain you want to continue.

Cheers, Andy.
