  1. I still see no mention of fixing or upgrading ATC.
  2. Really! A "former" senior airline pilot thinks a sub-one-hundred dollar software simulator without ATC communication is better than a multi-million dollar simulator? Maybe that's why the description, "former". Or maybe the million dollar ones also don't have ATC.
  3. Other may have a different opinion on this. I believe for new pilots and those still in training, ATC communication is one of the greatest challenges. And yet, for a simulator given all types of accolades, XP is severly lacking in that area. Maybe it will be addressed one day.
  4. Maybe I'm overlooking something. I downloaded and installed Xpuipc but it seems very limited in what it does. I did use FSUIPC for many years so I know what it offers. From what I can see, xpuipc only supports networking? No other utilities such as key, button, and joystick configuration?
  5. Actually, that's what friends are for! Find one that owns an aircraft and needs the right seat filled. Works for boats too.
  6. I've wondered about using a LED TV vs large screen display monitor. Could we get the specs on the displays? I see they are 60 inch but what about: Resolution Pixel pitch Contrast ratio Are they set at 60hz or the higher 120 / 240 Which connection DVI, HDMI
  7. Thank you for all the suggestions. Thunderbird is what I downloaded and installed. Took a bit of time to get the POP3 server configuration correct for my ISP. It's working now.
  8. I appreciate the reply and link Paul, but I'm not sure if your are being facetious ot not. With the smiley face I think you are. Have a bad experience with Windows Live Mail? I have considered it but I believe it stores your email on-line, correct? I found a free program called Postbox. There is a free Express version, but so far I can't get it to access my mail server. And of course there is NO phone support. Any other suggestions?
  9. I need to replace Vista with Windows 7. The issue holding this up is email. I read that Windows 7 no longer includes an email program. What program do you use for email? Thanks.
  10. Hi Keith, Just a week ago I did a new/fresh (hd reformat) install of Win 7 from Vista for XPlane 10. No idea if the PICS file id was there after the Win 7 install. I did find a way to open the PICS file in Notepad. That changed the file type designation from PICS to .prt. All is fine now. Thanks for the help.
  11. Thank you Jason. Not sure why mine are identified as type PICS Rules File. I did just purchase an addon package that included custom key commands. Maybe that package changed the file type. I'll contact them but first I needed to know how the files were identified on other peoples installation.
  12. "General discussions focusing on the XPlane simulator. Help and user guidance on this simulator is available here." Really? Thanks for everyones help and guidance on my question.
  13. Could someone look in their Xplane10/Output/Preferences folder and see if the files are identified as .prf or PICS Rules File. Also, what is the exact name of the Keys file or files. Thanks.
  14. Please remember that some of us left MSFS due to the constant tweaking of parameters to get the sim to operate correctly. I really don't want to start that with XP. If something is broken or not dialed-in correctly in XP, can't we let the developers fix it?
  15. Which add-on? No idea. Just one I found. I'll look for those files. Thanks!
  16. I have an aircraft file that displays the engine nacelles when looking left or right. Problem is, the views are not detailed and ruins the illusion of looking out the aircraft window. What program is used to change engine nacelle graphics detail? Planemaker? I want a crisper image to make the nacelles look more realistic.
  17. ........... which raises the question, how can flight schools and simulator companies use XP for training if the aircraft flight dynamics are unrealistic. Do they have something we don't?
  18. Hi Jan, Thank you for the reply. Visibility shouldn't have been a problem since I had selected Clear/No Clouds and saw stars all around during the flight. You might be right regarding the aircraft switching off lights. I'll try your idea of following an aircraft and see what happens.
  19. So, no one has a problem spotting and avoiding aircraft in-flight?
  20. A .rar file? Can someone point to a safe program to extract it?
  21. Is anyone able to see aircraft at night? Last night I was flying from BWI to GSO and never could see aircraft around me. I have five AI assigned in Aircraft & Situations and I know they were out there from TCAS. Maybe MSFS was overly realistic with beacon and strobe lights since this is my first use of XP10. Now on the ground while watching aircraft taxi and takeoff I do see beacon and stobe lights, but once airborne they quickly fade away. Doesn't take long to loose sight of them.
  22. Thank you Cameron. I'm looking at a purchase but the manual's intro sure has a good bit of issues to consider.
  23. Could someone tell me who is X-Aviation.com and where it's located? Searched all over the site but found no information about it. To order a product I have to give all types of personal information but can't find anything about it. Thanks.
  24. I'm a new user of XP after trying the demo for several months. Here's my question. How does XP get FAA certification with the reported deficiencies? Is the Professional version different than the Desktop?
