September 9, 201015 yr Hello folksI have two freeware ATR 72-500s one is made by ISDT very nice models. The other is by Francisco Sánchez-Castañer My question is this one of these aircraft will cruise(fl230) at between 180-195 occasionally 200 kts(it feels sluggish and cruises with a nose up attitude.)The other model at the same altitude and with similar fuel loads cruises at 210-220kts)It certainly feels to me as a sim plane much better at these speeds and also no nose up (or little anyway). What is the correct cruising speed please. Both aircraft use the same panel and use an engine management system(sort of auto throttle I think)cheers Andy
September 9, 201015 yr Hello Andy, from another Andy.Ive got the Payware Flight1 ATR72-500.I usually get around the 210-220kts indicated mark depending on wind.If i had to put an average on it, groundspeed would be around 250kts.The other day i had an incredibly strong tailwind with a groundspeed of 365kts!180-195 seems a little on the low side, considering climb speed in this aircraft is 170kts indicated.Andy
September 9, 201015 yr Author Thanks for your reply. Its the ISDT model that seems to cruise on the low side 180 195kts (doesn't want to go any faster even with tail wind)And the older Francisco Sánchez-Castañer model that's in the 210-20 kt range.I will give the isdt 42-500 a go tonight and see how that performs. There are various FDEs you can try but rather like Poskies I am not quite sure which i have installed at the moment. Its rather unfortunate because there are a lot more repaints for the newer ISDT models.I have visited there site but there has not been a lot going on there for some time now(can't complain on that score as they are freeware after all.)As a side note I fly with Airsource VA and it always seems that there routes and airlines never match the re paints I want to use. I do like to stick to real flts for the aircraft i am using. Thanks for your thoughtscheers Andy(What a most excellent name)PS Fonts have gone bonkers so apologies for that.
September 9, 201015 yr If it helps at all then ATR themselves (www.atr.fr) state a maximum cruise TAS of 300kts for the real-world ATR72-500. That'd equate (I make it) to just over 200kts IAS at FL230 depending on the actual pressure; ground speed is obviously that plus or minus the relative wind. So (surprise surprise) the payware model is the more realistic. 180-195kts IAS is certainly far too low.Tim
