Another RAM question - 12GBs or 6GBs better?

Can anyone say how much difference buying RAM with higher latency will make to performance in FS9 and FSX? I am thinking of a new PC with a Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R M/B. I have a choice between DDR3 PC3-12800, DDR3 PC3-10600, DDR3 PC3-8500 RAM, but the price difference between DDR3 PC3-8500 and DDR3 PC3-12800/PC3-10600 is enormous.I don't want to spend more than £200 sterling on RAM, so would I be better off (performance-wise, I mean, not financially!) buying 6 (i.e 2 'triple packs') x DDR3 PC3-8500 (giving me 12GBs of RAM in total) rather than 3 (1 'triple pack' of DDR3 PC3-12800 or PC3-10600 (giving me 'only' 6 GBs).The options are here:http://www.crucial.com/uk/store/listparts.aspx?model=GA-X58A-UD3RThanks!Martin

Get the PC3-12800 6GB trichannel kit. Fsx with benefit most from this. Look at Corsair or Mushkin, they are the 2 best RAM manufacturers. Get this if possible:http://www.crucial.com/uk/store/mpartspecs.aspx?mtbpoid=82229328A5CA7304

OK. How about FS9 - I fly 99% FS9?Where do you get the info from? Personal experience or some documentation? I'd like to read a bit more..Thanks,Martin

Personal experience. I have been Builing computers and studying different systems for 5 years now. A system like that will run FS9 on maximum settings possible with ease.

OK. Thanks for the advice. (Others agree??) .. :-)Martin

As for what type of ram... you need to look at your motherboard manufacturers qualified vendor's list. That will give you the real limitations of any product.

6G Ram for 64bit machine is the max you will need : FSX/FS9 are 32bit software -they can only ever address 4G of RAM, the other 2G will be used by the system includingthe Video ram shadow. Adding more than 6G will be pointless. For a 32bit machine then 4G is all you needs since the OS cannot address morethan 4G.Lets hope the next version will be fully 64bit.

It´s my experience that mobo-manufacturers don´t go out of their way to test ALL the ram available, the list in the user guide is usually pretty short. The ram manufacturers do, in my experience, have a more thorough list of available mobos. On the Mushkin forums they´re running a thread where users themselves list of compatible hardware. So, I can recommend Mushkin Redline, they´re at 1600 MHs with very low CAS Latency of 6 (and that´s fast). My 2 c

Exactly. Also look at what memory types Intel rates their I5 7xx:http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=429151066/1333 MHzThose specs don't mean a thing

Have looked at a number of (good) reviews of the Mushkin Redline, but can't find any retailers in the UK..M

You could probably get them shipped from Denmark if it is. I´ll look up a trusted vendor, you could e-mail them and explain the situation. I don´t belive there will be any tax added since we´re inside EU-borders.Edit: http://www.bj-trading.dk/newshop/default.asp?pv=998805&pn=Mushkin&vare=461235&f=edbp

You can get Mushkin ram in the UK. I've bought it before online. Can't remember the store, I'll search and see.
