Fixing Missing Glass in SP1?

Featured Replies

I have several F-4 models in FSX that the cockpit glass is not visible. I am running SP1. I looked at the texture bmp's and have the UV bmp's but I have no idea at all as to what I have to do with the textures to make the glass visible. Can anyone please help me to get the glass visible on these planes? Someone told me it was because SP1 does not read the textures correctly. If I look at the models in FS Repaint the glass shows up OK. The planes are imports from FS9. Many other my FS9 imports do not have missing glass. Thanks, regards, Bob.

Check the associated textures and see if there is a file named inglass.bmp in any of them.If so, I have a replacement which possibly would work.

Hi David. Thanks. No there are no textures with any mention of glass. There are two fuselage textures that may contain the glass but I don't know what to do with them. They are all Ito's F-4's. Best regards, Bob.

If you want to do some "experimenting" with the textures, grab a copy of the following guide:http://library.avsim...=root&Go=SearchIt outlines the method normally used to create variations of transparency on propellers but the technique used might be useful.BTW - Have you checked the FSX slider which controls the transparency in 2D cockpit views ? It is on the Settings/Customize/Aircraft dialogue.Good Luck!

Hi David. Thanks. It's not the transparency in 2d. It's the transparency in any outside views like spot, etc. I have fixed props before using your techniques. My basic problem is that there are no "glass" named textures at all. There are two fuselage textures but I do not know what part of them might control the cockpit glass or, if I did, what to do with them. I tried e-mailing Kazanori Ito (spelling??)the model maker but the address I had for him was bad and it was refused as not correct. I looked at the model with a Hex Editor and the only bmp's called out are the ones in the Texture folder. I know nothing about painting so I am lost. Best regards, Bob.
