September 21, 201015 yr I have the Real Enviornment Xtreme V2.0 in CD version. I have installed the software, but I am unable to initialize it.I have an REX2 folder in my Windows XP Program files folder. I also have an REX2 ICON on my desktop. When I double click on the desktop icon I get the REX WASYS screen, with the message"REX Weather initializing Real Enviornment Xtreme is starting its initializing process"I wait for 5 minutes and nothing happens.I then double click on the desktop icon again and then the following messageappears across the REX WASYS screen,"REX Weather Engine 2.0 has encountered a problem and neeeds to close."Is there anyone with REX2 experience? The REX2 website seems to support only the download version.Any help would be appreciated.Thanks.

In both cases it sounds as if the programsare waiting for internet access - first to register, the second to get theweather data. Do you have a firewall, are you connected to the internet OK

Next, you click the "Minimize" button. Then you load your flight. Once the flight is loaded, only then does REX know what weather to load. It does this automatically, and you will see green bar messages telling you this in the sim. Hope this helps.Major V
September 21, 201015 yr Author Major V,I do not get the REX2 screen when I load a flight. Also, I am unable to get to the OPTIONS screen since the REX2 will not initialize..I do get the REX WASYS scrren you have posted, but only after I click on the REX2 icon on the desktiop. That is as far as I can getThe REX2 remains but nothing happens.I checked in the REX2 folder (under Program Files), and noted an ERROR sub folder. In it I found numerous error LOG postings, which were all the same text.the only difference was the time noted on each. It seems that every time I double clicked on the desktop ICON and got the error message, it createdan error notation in the error file. The message in the error file was;ERROR TRAPINF FOR REAL ENVIRNONMENT XTREMEClass location: frmRexWx2. readOptionsxmlError: Could not find file 'C:\Program Files\Real Environment Xtreme 2.0\options..xml'.I looked in the Real Enviornment Xtreme 2 folder and did note .xml files. However, I FOUND NO "options.xml file.Is this why I cannot initialize REX2? I have a viable internet connection. Do I need to shut off my firewall? Thanks.Stanner

Do I need to shut off my firewall? Thanks.StannerStanner:It is possible that your firewall is preventing the REX weather engine from downloading the weather reports, so it would be a good idea to exempt its file directory from the firewall. However, I am not sure you have REX properly installed. When you click the REX icon, you should get a REX 2.0 load screen followed by the REX Main screen, which has a bunch of buttons across the top (like "Main", "Theme Creation", "Options", "Configuration", etc). Also, when you first installed REX, you were supposed to tell it where your fsx.cfg is located and where the FSX directory is on your system - did you do this or not? You may need to go to the REX website and ask them for help. Good luck.Major V
September 21, 201015 yr So you're opening 'rex.exe', and not 'rexwxengine2.exe'? That rex weather engine screen with the radar... you should not even see that. It opens behind FSX and remains in the background, and plays no part in configuration or setup. 'rex.exe' is what you need.Sorry can't help, but here is their official support forums:http://realenvironmentxtreme.com/forum/index.phpRead their stickies, put your order number in signature and request help if you still need it. =)
September 24, 201015 yr Author Gentlemen,Thank you for your suggestions. The problem has been resolved. I was not aware that I had TWO REX icons on my desktop. I was clicking on Rex Weather Engine 2.0, rather than Real Enviornment. When Iclicked on the Real Enviornment icon, all went well and I was able to configure REX and select my options, etc.Dumb on my part not recognizing that there was another icon.Stanner
