Locking Up+Freezing FSX

Hi Rick, let us know how you get on.The Highmem=1, under the Graphics section in the cfg, has removed all previous problems I did encounter. I use a program called Airhauler, which has a lot of Alt+Tab, + Enter and I use the map menu quite often, without any problems. So I am constantly dropping into another window and the desktop and then back to FSX, which I run in fullscreen. Now this is without the UIAUTOMATIONCORE.dll. So my assumption is that Highmem does an awful lot to help FSX! So if it helps you, thats more evidence in my "experience locker" for FSX!Good Luck.David Harrison
Hi David. The only reason I have to resort to using the default FSX map is because none of us FSXers can use that unique utility FSNav,which in FS2004 is a real boon to see the map,the waypoints, etc.I miss it in FSX.Hopefully, one day, somebody as equally clever will be able to develop something like it.I too have Air Hauler but am so engrossed with my PMDG/Level-D fleet at the moment that other aircraft are taking a backseat.I'm about to undertake the same Swissair MD-11 LSZH-EGKK flight that crashed over DVR,so will update now that I have carried out the tips you kindly suggested

Thanks for the suggestion,David, but the AirHauler aircraft is much too lumbering for me to build up enough funds in cargo revenues to afford an MD-11.Still,a nice thought.........hmmmmm!To get back to date, thanks to you and John for your tips, managed a straight forward SID take-off from Rwy34 LSZH to the approach STAR at EGKK,but when I got to Timba at 4000',and descended to VOR MAY before turning into Rwy26L approach, for whatever reason,I could not capture the G/S and thus had to hand-land.I had the correct altitude on finals, correct flaps, etc so am baffled why it did not capture the G?S to do a Dual Land autoland. But far more importantly than that, despite switching Views everywhere en route, and regular references to the default Map to check against the STAR chart, your tip did the job.No CTD.Thanks for that valuable piece of advice. Not related to this,am seriously contemplating the half-price offer for Just Flight's Spitfire Mk IV but am wondering should I await a review,or can someone vouch for it.I've burnt my fingers once or twice with duff buys.

Great video,David.Nice humour in the captions too! But is that the current Battle of Britain Anniversary Special Spitfire MkIV being offered at Just Flight's website as seen in the ad banners on Avsim,or is it their earlier bundle which included the Me109? I'm so,so tempted, and your video has gone some ways to make that temptation even more compelling, but Flightstore are currently offering 30% off some great titles and these are even more tempting, specially the Aerosoft sceneries.I've had a look at your very helpful MD-11 video for Hubert too.Between you and Dan,you two are proving to be the gems of this PMDG Forum.Keep it up,guys.Good,well-researched,sound advice like you two give is ALWAYS appreciated

Hi David.Just how brave the pilots on both sides was highlighted recently in a special Battle of Britain 70th Anniversary Special when Ewan Mcgregor and his Royal Air Force fast jet pilot brother re-lived the daring deeds of the pilots of that Battle.40% losses were due to pilots running low on fuel returning to Old Blighty and having to ditch in the cold waters of the English Channel, and there being no SAR choppers around then, they had just about 5 minutes to survive.McGregor Snr.took a dip wearing just the flight jacket of those brave pilots, plus, for safety's sake a flotation collar, which of course those aces of yonder years did not have.As an ex-RAF man of the 70s,I salute those brave men.Unfortunately,I missed out on the half-price order as Just Flight have just put up the price of that Spitfire Mark IV to full price.

I have had the same indicators as described above (freezing FSX, hearing sound,...).I tried a lot off things...nothing happened but than I uninstalled <<<<<FSRECORDER>>>>> and my sim runs like a breeze now.In some way it must have messed up something with the view thing in my sim.Hope this helps for some off you 2 ;)Regards,
