October 11, 201015 yr Hi guys. I started back doing a little bit of scenery design and ran into a problem. Of course it doesn't make sense to me. I used FSDS2.5 to make my macros (api's) over the years. I made a scenery in FSX and tried some of my old api's and they worked fine. Then I tried a couple of others, and naturally there was a problem. The scenery designer will place them and they will show just fine. However, if ones pans around a bit, the textures disappear and then return and as one swings around the buildings the textures just keep coming and going. (the building turns to solid black) I then went over and made new textures and a new building and it did it again. No go, same on and off textures. I do have the new FSDS, but an api cannot be made, so I am at a loss there. What could be causing this? BTW .... my buildings are very simple and uncomplicated, consisting of basically a rectangular box, a one piece roof and a simple porch. These are not 600 foot terminals!! Any ideas, and also how can I make a building in FSDS3.5 and save them in a usuable form like the old api's were? Thanks for any info, help or place you can send me. This was going so well!! Thanks again for any help.Don
October 11, 201015 yr Hello Don,Nice to see you around here. Hard to say what could be causing your display problem since FS X does not seem to completely support all legacy elements. If there are transparencies in your textures, then they may display incorrectly. Auto-rotating trees may not work. And even normal textures used to switch around during the beta; the developers supposedly fixed this, but probably did not have time to get everything right. Here is a simple building I made with display problems - FS X switches textures around:The way it is supposed to look and displayed correctly in SP1:And how it displays in SP2/X-Pack:So, you may also want to check whether you have SP2 installed. Please note that this building was made with gMax using the FS 2004 game pack. As soon as I exported the building using the FS X game pack, the problem was solved!Best regards.LuisNB: Funny how images now longer display correctly in the forum - you have to click on them to get them to show. Hot, humid Caribbean paradise!
October 11, 201015 yr Author Hi, Luis! Yep, still around. :) I am running Acceleration. Mine doesn't distort like yours is showing. Actually, in spot view, if I drop down to ground level and swing around the building, it creates the all black building. IF I raise the altitude of the view up, it all comes back, AND it shows correctly. Yet, other buildings are doing just fine. There are no transparencies. I even started from scratch and it still did it. I wonder if it is the texture resolution. I'll check on that. Never thought of it until now. Thanks buddy!!Don
October 12, 201015 yr Hi Don:Have you considered trying to convert your legacy API's to the newer FS9 / FSX compatible formats using Arno's ModelConverterX (aka "MCX") ? :Confused:http://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/index.phpFYI: In the current development release of MCX, after setting up one's paths to SDK and API texture folders on the "Options" Tab1.) Click Import2.) Set "Files of type": to "API macros (*.API)"3.) Browse and select the desired API; Click "Open"4.) See if MCX is able to successfully Import on the 3D preview tab.Hope this might help some of your great scenery objects migrate into the world of FSX with very little effort ! :( GaryGB
October 12, 201015 yr Author Thank you, Gary. I will give that a shot. I never even heard of it before. I appreciate the help, guys!Don
October 12, 201015 yr Author Got it fixed! I deleted the scenery and started over and all is well. Something must have been corrupt or something, but all the buildings fine now. Thanks again. :)Don
