October 12, 201015 yr Hi all,Once again doing some research for a mate. He's currently running the following:i5 650 @ 3.2GHz8GB DDR3 1333MHz Dual ChannelnVidia GT3202x 500GB RAIDI believe it's an Asus system, so I'm not sure what the PSU is or the mobo. Also means OCing is out of the question. What do you think is the best possible upgrade for this system? Cheers
October 12, 201015 yr Moderator Dump the RAID - it will slow down FSXpossibly get faster memory - 1600 6-8-6-24 would be goodget a GTX 460, 470 or 480.Be sure the PSU is big enough.Without clocking, that's about it. RIG#1 - I9 14900K MSI Pro z790 RTX 5070Ti 40" 4K Monitor 3840x2160
October 12, 201015 yr Ok found out some info. It's a Acer Aspire M5811. It's got a 500W PSU. There is NO raid, my mate thought it was but it's just a single 1TB HD. Case is very small so I dunno of it will fit a GTX 460.One thing he Told me was that the guy in the store told him it was a quad core computer. Could he return it under that basis? And get something like this:http://www.ple.com.au/?p=sys&sys=8But without monitor, speakers, keyboard and mouse (he bought them seperate).

October 13, 201015 yr Yeah Chris, but all 965 are black edition hence unlocked multies. Some 965 are 140W TDP though, while the 125W obviously overclock better because of heat. If he goes with a 965 and plans on OCing, better make sure it's the 125W version.EDIT: and it looks like it is the 125W one http://www.ple.com.au/?p=snapshot&inventory_id=766
October 13, 201015 yr Problem is he has already bought that Acer machine. I dont know if he can return it for no reason, but the guy in the shop told him it was a quad core when it was a dual core. Could he return it under this basis? If he can, should he go for that other system?
October 13, 201015 yr Well Chris, you know what I think about those dual Clarkdales. I don't think those AMD quads will perform any better if it's for FSX, and certainly not if he overclocks that I5 to some 4.4GHz.Anyway if he was told it was a quad I would vehemently complain and try to get my money back. The ple-computers systems seem to be way overpriced by the way
October 13, 201015 yr PLE arent that overpriced, its in AUD so prices are different. As its an Acer, it cant be overclocked.
