Apple or Android, what do you use?
Apple vs Android BlackBerry vs Windows Phone Mac vs PC Intel vs AMD nVidia vs AMD Firefox vs Chrome Internet Explorer vs Safari Facebook vs Twitter Xbox vs PlayStation PC vs Console Fender vs Gibson Ford vs Chevy Can we all please just get along? Everything has its strong points and everything has its weak points. I'm really tired of this stigma people have towards one brand over the other and how people use it as an excuse to force it on others *dismount soap box.*

Apple or Android, what do you use?
I use both. I have a 4th Gen iPod touch--jailbroken--though it hasn't gotten much use since I got my Droid (an HTC One V.) I also have an Asus TF300T Transformer with the keyboard dock. Both phone and tablet are on ICS and the iPod is still on 5.1.1. I like Android for the customization, less clunky notification center, and less clunky app switching and management. I like iOS for the better default mail app and (sometimes) better stability. I haven't seen enough of an incentive to upgrade to iOS 6--despite there being a jailbreak for it--since there hasn't really been any worthwhile change usability and featurewise. Part of me wants to root my phone and put Jelly Bean on it, just I'd need to find where the files for Beats Audio and the adaptive autobrightness are kept so that I could copy those over on stock JB. Personally I wish there were more pro grade audio interface apps for Android though.

Yet Another Thread About Building a Computer
thunderbolt294 replied to thunderbolt294's topic in System Hardware: PC | MOBO | RAM | CPU | HDD | SSD | PSU etcLooking at the benchmark graphs on nVidia's website, the jump between the 670 and the 660 Ti is marginal compared to the jump from the 660 to the 660 Ti. From the graph it also appears that the 660 Ti (stock) edges out the 580. I did measurements of my desk relative to the size of the monitor I plan on buying, and it looks like I won't be fitting more than 1 monitor on there :wacko2: Also, is there any difference in overclockabilty between the 2500K and the 2600K?

Yet Another Thread About Building a Computer
thunderbolt294 replied to thunderbolt294's topic in System Hardware: PC | MOBO | RAM | CPU | HDD | SSD | PSU etcAfter doing some reading, I see that IB has a heat issue when pushed to +-4.5GHz. So I've decided to go with a 2600K instead of a 3770K, which also adds some reduction in total cost. Here's what I've come up with using your suggestions as a starting point: Intel i7 2600K @3.4 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115070 ASUS P8Z77-PRO http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131819 Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2x4GB) @2133 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233245 EVGA 02G-P4-3664-KR GTX 660 Ti FTW Signature2 2GB http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130837 OCZ Agility 4 128GB SSD http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227807 WD 1TB Caviar Black 7200RPM 64MB Cache http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136533 Corsair H100 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835181017 Corsair HX750 Modular PSU http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139010 Corsair Carbide 400R Case http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811139008 Lite-On CD-DVD Drive http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827106276 ASUS VS238H-P 23 inch 1080p monitor http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236175 One thing I should have mentioned from the start is that I'll probably be buying what ever the final revision of this is about 3 months down the road. A question regarding nV cards and multi monitor set ups: Is it possible to get an Eyefinity style experience with 3 monitors on a single card, or does it require SLi-ing still?

Yet Another Thread About Building a Computer
I haven't posted here in ages and I finally got a job ($7.80 USD an hour for 15 hours a week.) I've been long due for a new computer (see specs in my sig) and I'm thinking about either going with an ASUS G75VW gaming laptop for $1250+tax and stuff, so about $1300, or building a computer for the equivalent price (including monitor, keyboard, case and Windows... And possibly wifi card.) Along with gaming I'm also gonna be processing and storing large amounts of raw audio. Just something to keep in mind. I do plan on overclocking, though. What I've got so far is: Intel i7-3770K Ivy Bridge @3.5GHz: $300 http://www.newegg.co...N82E16819116501 ASUS P8Z77-V PRO: $200 http://www.newegg.co...N82E16813131819 Or MSI Z77A-GD65: $150 http://www.newegg.co...N82E16813130643 GPU: I'm not sure yet, I may add more monitors later on, so AMD Eyefinity looks tempting compared to having to SLi two cards for a third monitor in extended desktop mode. RAM: Pretty much what ever a good speed and priced 8 or 16GB set is. Storage: I'm thinking about an SSD for Windows, possibly one for games, and a big platter drive. Case: What ever will fit everything, has airflow and won't break the bank. Cooling: :help: Monitor: ASUS and Samsung appear to have some of the cheapest priced 22 inch 1080p monitors I've found. And I think that's it for now. Remember, my budget is $1300 USD.

Normal to not show overclock in Windows?
thunderbolt294 replied to AWACS's topic in System Hardware: PC | MOBO | RAM | CPU | HDD | SSD | PSU etcPut the computer under some stress, the clock will jump right up.And a note: In Control Panel>System the clock displayed is the stock clock only, it will not show any over clocks.

Have you tried clearing the Shader Cache? (Located in "C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\FSX")

Water suddenly untextured...
Well there's your problem. FSWC doesn't technically support Shader Model 3.Also what was the last thing you changed/added when the problem started?

FSX Slows down after 5 minutes

FSX Slows down after 5 minutes
thunderbolt294 replied to rahulras1993's topic in System Hardware: PC | MOBO | RAM | CPU | HDD | SSD | PSU etcBingo, there's the culprit: CPU's hitting the temp wall and throttling down to idle clock. Also the Hard Drive temps are rather high; 45C is pushing it (the ideal operating temps for a hard drive are <35C,) and that would explain the sustained perf drop after running FSX. And the GPU temps are pretty high too. Also consider using Game Booster. The programs I'd consider axing would be anything from Dell (particularly any backup managers of any sort,) Side Bar (my CPU temps go down 10 degrees after killing SideBar.exe,) anything from Adobe, Java updater (if running,) any power saver services (you don't 'em when you're running FSX,) and any other programs you know you don't need running. And an important note: Disable Game Booster from minimizing to the tray or starting with Windows, BAR NONE.Also if you haven't: disable automatic updates for Windows.

FSX Slows down after 5 minutes
thunderbolt294 replied to rahulras1993's topic in System Hardware: PC | MOBO | RAM | CPU | HDD | SSD | PSU etcThat CPU's definitely hitting the temp wall and throttling (I have a laptop and have had this happen, so I know.) Consider jacking up the laptop a few inches and buying a good cooling pad, and also having a fan at the exhaust port PULLING the air out, as well as taking off the shields covering the HDD and RAM will also help with airflow too and keep things a lot cooler (I took the shields off of mine and the HDD temp never got higher than 35C, before it would get into the low/mid 40s C after heavy use.)To view CPU temps and what not use something like HWMonitor. As a general rule with CPU temps in laptops they will throttle around 76-78C [, and for some CPUs even lower.] (A note for desktop users: Mobile processors have a max temp ceiling of 100C.)

120fps all sliders at max. Is this normal?
For some it boost, for some it reduce, it all varies.

Long bootup time:
I know if the Windows partition doesn't get defragged in ages the boot times can go up quickly; so if you haven't done a defrag in awhile I'd suggest you do so with a 3rd party defragger like O&O for example. Also I know if the MFT (Master FIle Table) doesn't defragged boot times can suffer as well; the only defraggers I'm aware of that defrag the MFT are O&O during a boot time defrag, and Smart Defrag by Iobit (also during a boot time defrag.)You say after the login it takes forever (6 minutes) to load your user account? If that's the case: check and trim the start up programs list and trim unnecessary services as well (if you haven' done that.)

Fsx is sending me to the hospital !
thunderbolt294 replied to luvairbus's topic in System Hardware: PC | MOBO | RAM | CPU | HDD | SSD | PSU etcDoes RealTemp support AMD processors? Because mine's not supported when I try run it.Anyways here's a good, nice and light temp (and even voltage) monitor; HWMonitor.@luvairbus, what CPU cooler are you using; the stock cooler for the Athlon, the stock cooler for the Phenom, or an after market cooler? Also did make sure that the cooler got set correctly on the CPU socket, and that thermal paste was applied evenly across the CPU surface? Also when you upgrade CPUs (this is relative to AMDs only) you should update the mother board BIOS to the latest version as well. If your computer was a prebuilt from a company like Dell [for example,] go to their site and search the computer model number and look for relative downloads for the BIOS for it.If you built the computer just go the mother board manufacture's site and search the board model number and and download the relative BIOS for it. They'll give you instructions on how to update the BIOS when you get to the download page for it (or a link to a page with the instructions.)Just please give us the hardware specs of your rig, I.e: Mother board brand and model, PSU brand and model, RAM brand and model, hard drive brand and model, etc.

What is wrong?
Those are from the Mip settings in Catalyst being too low.
