September 15, 200322 yr ..haven't seen this mentioned before, but - in fs2k2 the horizon is pretty close to "real world" as it can get. In fs9 - no matter how much I dicker with any of the settings - I CANNOT get that beautiful, long-distance haze where the sea meets the sky. It is always a hard, blue or aquamarine(?) solid color with no "fuzzy" haze at all. Doesn't matter whether you're 5, 10 or 100 miles away - it's always solid. I used to enjoy flying around the Med, Greece, North Africa, Naples, etc., in the MAAM "BT" Mitchell - and it looked SO real: now it's just so artificial-looking; scenery "dithering" and so on. I've tried everything from AGP aperture to all weather combo's to tri/bi/none to giant/high/max/min with prdictable and noticeable changes - but nothing causes or creates the fs2k2 horizon haze. Yes the scenery DETAIL is really fabulous, water effects, etc., and I like it better than 2k2, but I sure miss the reality of that horizon.I'm running an AMD AXDA3000+ on an ASUS A7V8X m/b, with 1 gig/400ddr and an ATI Radeon 9500/128 mb. It flies - with no apparent limiting of the sliders.Help!
September 15, 200322 yr Strange enough I did not had them in FS2004 in the beginning but now I have them.. I wonder if fsuipc is responsible.. ?Johan[A HREF=http://www.phoenix-simulation.co.uk]Phoenix Simulation Software[/A]-----http://www.people.zeelandnet.nl/johdUnofficial PSS WebsiteCURRENTLY MY SERVER IS DOWN FOR A FEW WEEKS!
September 15, 200322 yr I've got that problem too. I've adjusted all the visibility limiting variables in FSUIPC, changed the max view distance on the weather tab of the display options...nothing works. Chris Willis...maybe he can help us, as he's the "sky god".
September 16, 200322 yr Commercial Member Hi, post a little shot if this is too much overdone compare to normal fs2k4 result. Also change the date, 1, 2, 3, 4 to 31 in fs2004, the sky/haze change from date in each month. Reducing the sight distant to the left in the displayweather, increase the gradual haze and improve frame rate. You can try my files and see if this will improve th horizon http://fsw.simflight.com/FSWFs2k4fix.html, this is only a ms basic change, I am working for new realistic set.ThanksChris Willis[link:fsw.simflight.com/FSWMenuFsSim.html]Clouds And Addons For MsFs Kind RegardsChris Willis
September 16, 200322 yr Hi Chris. I've installed your cloud/horizon fix long ago. Its a solid line that we're experiencing. There is no gradual transition from the horizon to the sky, like there is every day in the real world due to haze. Even if its a severe clear/CAVOK day, the dust particles on the horizon will refract the light to appear as haze. It just drops off like the world is flat.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/37255.jpgI'm thinking that if there is a way to move the bright(er) white area highlighted by the box down to the horizon, it would look a lot more realistic...as seen in this shot: http://www.airliners.net/open.file/421331/L/The FS shot was taken with the "Clear Weather" theme, Chris Willis' Cloud and FPS Fix V2. Cloud draw distance 60 miles and sight distance 80. FSUIPC (registered version), cloud tab set to default.
September 16, 200322 yr Commercial Member Hi, I have juste remember, I did not change the day sky, only the dusk /dawn sorry about this. but you will find differents haze from date to date from these Ms default.I will try to fix this on the next release.ThanksChris Willis[link:fsw.simflight.com/FSWMenuFsSim.html]Clouds And Addons For MsFs Kind RegardsChris Willis
September 16, 200322 yr are you planning a modified day file...if not, any suggestions for fixing this ourselves?
September 16, 200322 yr Author Add TableFog=0 to your display config file under the ATI Radeon header as shown below, in the main FS9 folder; ATI Radeon Win2k/XP----------------------------------------------------------------------(ati2dvag.dll)Disable=1TableFog=0(ati2dvag.dll.1)MinDriverRev=5.13.01.3102Disable=2TableFog=0I did this with my 9000 PRO card. In the visibility window, I set visibility to 20 miles, base altitude to "0" and ceiling to 50000'. In the Temp/Pressure window, I set my altitude to 3000', and had no more than a 10 degree difference in the upper and lower temperatures. This combo produced VERY real haze. The closer you make the two temperature settings, the more humid the air mass which adds to the haze level.Hope it works for your card.

September 16, 200322 yr WOW!Thanks ALL for the suggestions. I think HighTower has hit the nail. I will try this tonight. And I'm glad to know that I'm not alone!regards,pj
September 16, 200322 yr TableFog added the haze and setting the visibility to 20 miles, base altitude to 0 - 50,000 feet, etc., added the rest of the thick stuff.Well done HT, you are a genius. I was not far away from going back.....regards and many thanks,pj
September 17, 200322 yr Author Glad it worked for you. I was all set to drop some coin into a new processor, video card and memory, but with the various tweaks I've learned about on this forum, FS9 is running VERY, VERY nicely on my lowly 1.4 Athlon. Think I will upgrade memory anyway as you really can't have enough. Enjoy.
