October 15, 201015 yr Hi guys,First off i'd like to announce that in April of 2011 my last name will be changing. Yes I said it. I have agreed that I will be changing my last name and my fiancée with keep hers. Anyways, to business. My finances are admittedly not in top form at the moment, however, a sweet bonus is just on the horizon, which should cover my small loan for engagement ring, and a fair sum for extra spending. It's not really set in stone, but I'm looking at these TH2Go systems people have setup. A few questions:1) how well do they work with FSX & other games, along with every day use?2)How much does the entire unit cost (3 HD screens + TH2Go system)3) any recommendation on monitors, sizes, specs etc.4) how easy are they to setup? I've done enough tweaking of my system in the past few months and I've had enough. Want everything from now to be nice and straight forward. (here's hoping FS11 ain't gonna be a ######). Cheers,
October 15, 201015 yr Hi guys,First off i'd like to announce that in April of 2011 my last name will be changing. Yes I said it. I have agreed that I will be changing my last name and my fiancée with keep hers. Chris: First off, since you posted it, I assume you're looking for comment. What are you, nuts? Man up dude! Let her keep her name if she wants, but what are you changing YOURS for? My gawd, man, try getting on top once in a while, too! Second off: There is NOTHING like multi-monitor flying. Once you do it, you'll never go back. I found my best set up for FS9 was with a double head to go, though, as the triple head was more money and the double head to go with a separate, 3rd monitor hooked up to my video card's second head actually offered me more control over screen placement than the software solution offered by Matrox. (FYI, My latest specs are in my signature below, and yes, I'm now running 4 monitors on 2 dual head to go's.) You can price this hardware either on the MATROX website, flight sim vendors, Amazon.com or (where I bought mine) on eBay.Buy it, get it working and ENJOY IT! And if you change your name when you get married? Well, don't brag about it -- you're embarassing yourself. October 16, 201015 yr Bangoman- cheersTrelane- in my defence, I'm not doing it reluctantly, I'd be lying if I said I like my last name. I don't hate it, I just prefer her name. That's is all ;)With the TH2Go, how much does the unit they supply cost (retail) and what sort of monitors should be bought? Does it support 3 1920x1080's?So this box connects to one port on your graphics card, and there are 3 connections coming off the box for your monitors, correct? What type of connections are on the box? HDMI, DVI, or VGA??And what size of monitors should you get? 22-24"?
October 16, 201015 yr Yes, one cable goes to your video card, and there are three heads for output. There are a lot of discussions about multi-monitor and matrox boxes in the FS2004 and FSX forums, I suggest you look in there for some of the issues and advantages - I run FS9 exclusively, so my setup will be different from yours. And all of your technical questions can be answered here, young Obi-Wan:[/url]http://www.matrox.com/graphics/en/products/gxm/th2go/Enjoy! Smooth Skies! -- Chuck B. October 16, 201015 yr Make sure you get the "Digital Edition" TH2Go! See the various TH2Go model supported resolutions.Cheers,-jahman.
October 16, 201015 yr As I said, this is all depending on my bonus. However, I'll head over to the FSX forum and have a look. Cheers guys,
October 16, 201015 yr Chris, Re name change to that of your fiancee, I actually offered this myself when I got married as my wife was an only child and I had plenty of brothers to carry on the family name. But my wife didn't like her maiden name so we went with mine instead - go figure!Re your questions: 1) how well do they work with FSX & other games, along with every day use?Works great with FSX and also with most other games, although some will require some tweaking to get to work. I run both FSX and FS9 in windowed mode, so I can enjoy the multiple displays to watch TV and surf the net while flying. Everyday use is also fantastic, being able to spread your workspace out over three, or in my case four, monitors with each individually maximisable using the Matrox software utility.2)How much does the entire unit cost (3 HD screens + TH2Go system)I bought 4 x 19" standard (4:3) panels for about US$130 each plus US$310 the TH2G digital edition unit. All this was three years ago, so it has got to be cheaper now especially with the strong Aussie dollar at the moment.3) any recommendation on monitors, sizes, specs etc.I know the TH2G is now capable of handling 3 x widescreen monitors but I think 3 x standard monitors gives a better overall widescreen perspective that is not as postbox slot-like. 4) how easy are they to setup? I've done enough tweaking of my system in the past few months and I've had enough. Want everything from now to be nice and straight forward. (here's hoping FS11 ain't gonna be a ######). I run the Matrox provided utility and, other than setting FSX for widescreen operations, that's it! 9800X3D | 4090 | 64GB | 2+1TB NVME | 2TB SSD | 2TB HDD | 85/50/43” TVs | Quest 3 | DOF H3 Motion Rig | Buttkicker | T.16000M Flight Kit MSFS @ 4K Ultra DLSS Performance FG 80 FPS | VR VDXR Godlike 80Hz SSW | MSFS VR DLSS Quality, Ultra Preset - Windows 11 Acer Nitro 5 | i5-11400H | RTX 3060 6 GB | 32GB DDR4 | 15.6" FHD IPS 144Hz | 2 x 512 GB SSD | Windows 11
October 16, 201015 yr Great, thanks for your answers. Now all I need is a nice bonus to settle things down and I'll be good to go. Can you go 3x 1920x1080 with the digital edition? If not, what res. monitors do you recommend?
October 16, 201015 yr If any one can find some good 4x3 monitors these days for a reasonable price, please let me know! Smooth Skies! -- Chuck B. October 17, 201015 yr So I should get 3x 1680x1050, or does it look better on a different resolution?
October 17, 201015 yr So I should get 3x 1680x1050, or does it look better on a different resolution?It really your personal preference. Here's what 5040x1050 and 3840x1024 look like scaled down to 20%:I personally prefer the latter as it doesn't excessively stretch VC's out. Here's a representative screenshot of what I see at 3840x1024 with the window borders trimmed away:Also, the three monitors plus an extra fit nicely on my desk:As said previously, it's really up to your own preference. 9800X3D | 4090 | 64GB | 2+1TB NVME | 2TB SSD | 2TB HDD | 85/50/43” TVs | Quest 3 | DOF H3 Motion Rig | Buttkicker | T.16000M Flight Kit MSFS @ 4K Ultra DLSS Performance FG 80 FPS | VR VDXR Godlike 80Hz SSW | MSFS VR DLSS Quality, Ultra Preset - Windows 11 Acer Nitro 5 | i5-11400H | RTX 3060 6 GB | 32GB DDR4 | 15.6" FHD IPS 144Hz | 2 x 512 GB SSD | Windows 11
October 17, 201015 yr hmmm. the 3840x1024 does look pretty good. I would probably end up going 3x 1280x1024, because I dont want anything to look stretched.
October 17, 201015 yr ...Also, the three monitors plus an extra fit nicely on my desk: Nice setup, RESET MCP ALT!BTW, which SimVar do you use to control the lectric heater?Cheers,- jahman.
