September 27, 200322 yr Having just re-installed FS9 I notice that the Windows Registry has loads of stuff in it which isn't needed. I would appreciate advice on a reliable XP Home registry cleaner and links to where one can be downloaded. In view of the damage which such a piece of software could do something with personal recommendation would be nice.Thanks.David
September 27, 200322 yr Hi David,I am using the one found at the link below with WinXP Pro. I can't imaging any problem using it with XP Home edition. This one has a 15 day (if I remember correctly) trial period where it will scan and report all errors with the regestry but will only fix 2 problems of each type until paid for and registered. I'm sure there are free ones as well but this one is the only one I've used and have had good results with it.Here is the link:http://www.registry-cleaner.net/Regards,
September 27, 200322 yr Hey Tommy!Do you happen to know of any good Maine scenery? I know there was some coastal mesh terrain for 2002 as well as a few airports. Anything good for 2004 yet?DouglasBar Harbor KBHB
September 27, 200322 yr Hey Douglas,No, I don't know of any FS2004 scenery for Maine. I've thought about making some but just haven't gotten around to it. I would like to redo Portland Intl. Jetport as well as downtown Portland as this is where I start most of my flights. I do have the USA terrain mesh installed but that's it.BTW, do you live in Bar Harbor? I will be up there in a week or so for my yearly vacation. It takes me about 3 hours to get there from just outside of Portland so it makes for a good weekend vacation.Take care,
September 28, 200322 yr Some Maine scenery would be nice...Yes I live on Mount Desert Island. I actually work as a pilot at KBHB (flight instruction, scenic flights, & glider towing), but I love goofing off with the flight sim. You should start flying as its only about 35-40 minutes to PWM from BHB in a Saratoga :)Douglas
September 28, 200322 yr I suggest Easy Cleaner (Free). I've used this product from Win95 to XP. It is fast, simple and effective.Get it here http://www.toniarts.com/ecleane.htmbf
September 28, 200322 yr ..........I agree. Very easy to use. Also creates undo files so, if any probs, simple to go back. Having said that, the only problem I have encountered was on my wife's ME machine. Easy Cleaner removed all references to the Help System! Fortunately, very simple to correct - just add 'help' to the list of entries in the registry for the cleaner to skip. 'Norton' is already there by default.Mike
September 29, 200322 yr If anyone has wiped out the Help function in XP before seeing Mike's post, the fix to restore the Help functionality is here: http://www.dougknox.com/xp/scripts_desc/fixwinxphelp.htmDoug Intel 10700K @ 5.1Ghz, Asus Hero Maximus motherboard, Noctua NH-U12A cooler, Corsair Vengeance Pro 32GB 3200 MHz RAM, RTX 2060 Super GPU, Cooler Master HAF 932 Tower, Thermaltake 1000W Toughpower PSU, Windows 10 Professional 64-Bit, 100TB of disk storage. September 29, 200322 yr Just to clarify my previous advice (typed rather quickly, so some may have been a little confused), if after running EasyCleaner you find you can't access the 'Help' system in Windows ME/XP, do the following:1. Browse to the ToniArtsEasyCleanerUndo folder and look for the '.reg' file with the most recent 'Date Modified' date - by that I mean the date of creation of the file at the time the 'Help System' functionality was lost.2. Double click this file to restore the registry entries.3. Run EasyCleaner, hit the 'Clean registry' button.4. The 'Clean registry' window will open and at the top you will notice 'Skip' with 'norton' already there as an entry.5. Add 'help' so the entry will now appear: norton, help6. Now click the 'Find' button to clear the redundant registry entries. This new entry is remembered so you won't have to add it again.Mike
