is a cheap system good enough for fsx?

Featured Replies

hii'm not familiar well with pc technology.another thing is my will to be more serious with this hobby of flying simulation.and so i want to move from fs9 to fsx and also in the forthcoming future to microsoft flight ( or is it fs11 ? ) and buy some more quality controls instead my Logitech extreme 3d pro.i'm also a great fun of tileProxy project i like using it .so i need a new pc, new screen ( i think the new Led technology is better cause of higher contrast ) , leftover budget for new controls like CH yoke or the new combat rudder pedals of saitek.so in order to not feel crazy cause spending so much money at once ,i thought about buying a pc based on Athlon II x4 Quad Core 640 Socket AM3 3.0Ghz and overclock it, and graphics card like GTX 460 .so my question is : is it a wise thing to do or i should go right away to core i5 760 or maybe even one of the cheap core i7's?another thing is : if i should go with the core i5 or core i7 - where the Phenom II x4 Quad Core 965 Socket AM3 3.4Ghz or Phenom II x6 Six Core 1055T Socket AM3 2.8Ghz stands in comparison to the same price tag core technology ?thanks in advance.

Cheap can deffo be cheerful these days - have a good read of my experiences:http://forum.avsim.net/topic/292181-i3-530-fsx/Or some numbers:https://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=0Ahq4ws8Rx4gudEtLYlE5ZGdDanc1ZG1WcVdZY1FIMUE&hl=en&authkey=CKrfrI8D(As with anything FSX, take it with a pinch of salt, but you'll get the gist)Basically I got an i3-540 ($130), a cheap H55 mobo ($100), some RAM ($100) and a GTX460 1GB ($230). Add in a HDD ($40), PSU ($50), Case ($50). That's about $700 for a system that nets you 30+ fps. There are some 23" screens here in Canada for around $180. Not the best but good enough for flight simming me thinks. So call it a round $900 and you'll be golden I reckon. If you want cheaper than that then you could wait - both i3 and GTX460 prices will drop significantly before Christmas I reckon, esp since the AMD HD6xxx series are being launched right now.If you can't wait and want it cheaper then my experiences with the 8800GTS were good with FSX. It was for other games that I wanted the GTX460 (FIFA11 and SF4 FTW).
