Large HILL at Kalispell MT.

Featured Replies

Noted yet another terrain anomaly in COF. Theres a large 3000 ft high plateau at Kalispell MT which is clearly a bug.Theres a whole bunch of these kinds of things. Enough that a fix of some kind is needed. I dont know how to do that stuff myself, but if somebody who knew how to exclude these spikes, dips, divits, pits, craters, valleys etc, could work on it, it would indeed be a boon to all. I think the aprnfix.zip file from FS8 was a similar project that benefited everybody. Are there any fixes for some of these things yet?ThanksEric

While I do believe you Eric, I just took off from Carson Field and after doing a curcuit saw nothing out of the ordinary, it was actually a really nice area!!I also remember a member posting about one at Juneau, but my VA has a hub there and I fly out of PAJN reguarly and have yet to see any scenery projectiles anywhere, maybe it is user specific, dunno....maybe you got a possessed copy of FS! Hi Eric,They are not very difficult to fix yourself. The sim SDK describes how to create flatten switches, but there is a maximun of 10/scenery area, and they must be rectangular. I have a (free) utility you can use to create flatten.bgl files. These are not limited to rectangles, and there is no limit to the number you can have in an area. I created it to repair grass bleeding through taxiway aprons (like aprnfix does), but it works well for situations like this, as well for adjusting lake levels to fit the terrain. It looks like we're going to need more than one person to fix all these problems!www.fs-traveler.com/flatten.shtmlSteve

EricI see that too. I believe that if you look closely there is a grass strip airport (or what passes for an airport in Montana) Mower Field MT84 on top of the fake plateau. Worse yet, MT84's altitude shows as 4000 ft in all the internet databases I could find. 4000 ft is exactly what FS9 shows. So I guess the question is how to adjust the altitude of an airport. 3050 would be about correct.I have a Montana Aeronatuics Division Airport Directory from 2002. MT84 didn't make the list so I guess it got into the FAA database incorrectly somehow.MT84 is fun to land and depart on. Like a carrier landing without arresting cables. If you want to read about a real pilot who didn't have a good time, read the 16 Sept 2003 Reports and Breaking News here: http://www.montanapilots.org/Larry JonesFlorence, MT

Why don't you post a screenshot.Regards
