Keep Autogen at NORMAL

Featured Replies

Hi all,I really have no problems with stutters or frame rates. I'm locked at 25 and it usually stays within a few frames of that. Using 9800Radeon Pro, and 2.8gig P4 with 1024RDRAM. However, and this is a big HOWEVER....even my system is affected greatly when Autogen is above NORMAL. After much experimentation with many settings both full right and in-between, I found that the Autogen setting seemed the most critical for my system. Autogen at normal looks realistic, and perfectly fine. There is no need to go higher for the sake of realism. I keep my other scenery settings Full Right to Extremely Dense.See if Autogen is affecting your system disproportionaltely, too. Stan

Hi Stan,Interesting that with your system, autogen is bogging it down. I have a P4 2.8 w/512MB RAM, Radeon 9700TX and have both the autogen and scenery complexity set to extremely dense and have no performance issues. Clouds on the other hand, do give me grief :-)It goes to show that because people may have very similar systems, performance between them can vary significantly. Good piece of advise and here's hoping that someone benefits from it!!!Mikehttp://www.members.shaw.ca/madamo/boeingsig.jpg

I have EVERYTHING in FS max except the clouds and visibility which are between medium and high.I get a good 30-40fps with detailed aircraft such as Meljet's 777, POSky A330, 747, etc. When clouds really build up in the air, it periodically drops to around 15fps but then settles back to roughly 18-20fps.The LOWEST fps that I have found so far is only 14fps. And that was in extreme amount of clouds. We're talking about huge thunderstorms.I really don't know what problems many people are having with FS and I really feel bad for them. It seems like I'm one of the very few who are EXTREMELY satisfied with FS9 and have absolutely NO complaints.Maybe I'm blind or not thinking clearly and there REALLY is something wrong with FS9?I just don't know. It seems so odd how so many are complaining and having probs when I'm not.Regards

Clouds used to give me some slowdown. I'd read that Chris' clouds didn't have an impact with the high end ATI cards so I hadn't tried em'. Last week, I decided to give em' a try. I like em' better than the defaults and they resulted is a considerable boost in performance with my 9700 Pro. So, I say; if you haven't give em' a try yet, to do so. Just back up the texture folder first. With the autogen fixes and Chris' clouds, I run the sim with scenery complexity and autogen maxed and clouds maxed except density is set to high instead of max. No more problems with thunderstorms or building storms. Just that slowdown bug that exists when you fly above the thunderstorms.

Please try deleting the FS9Autogendefault.xml file (you may want to make a backup copy of it), then set Autogen to Extremely Dense and report your results.
