ATC Call Signs

Featured Replies

I have found a way to get the call sign and manufacturer of an airplane on ATC. I was surprised it was this simple, yet a mystery to myself because I am not a writer of programs neither am I familiar with the code that it takes to write the airplane. I was looking in the cfg. file of one of the airplanes that I downloaded and lo and behold there was a very short and sweet little line of code written to make ATC recognize the plane. It went like this:atc_id_enable=1. Simple huh! But a mystery to me, because I don't understand the written language of planes. I had the Fairchild Merlin III from the Mike Stone library and it would not recognize the manufacturer or type of plane only the call letters of the plane, but after adding that 1 little line of code ATC now recognizes the manufacturer and the type of plane when talking to other planes and also to me when I am flying it. Thanks so much for listening or reading as the case may be. Peace and great flying!

Just a little feedback....I just installed that aircraft (the SA 227AT Merlin III) to check your premise and found that having or not having that line made no difference at all. What did allow ATC to use Fairchild and the call letters, was to edit the [GENERAL] section so it reads FAIRCHILD instead of FAIRCHILD AIRCRAFT.[General]atc_type=FAIRCHILDThat is what worked for me.

The atc_id_enable= option defines whether to display the chosen aircraft registration on aircraft that are configured to allow this. The only ones that I have come across so-configured are default FS aircraft; most add-ons have the registration permanently embedded in the texture files.atc_id= (e.g. atc_id=G-ABCD) will define the registration to use.atc_id_color= (e.g. atc_id_color=0xffffffff) defines the colour it is displayed in.atc_id_enable=0 will disable the above two settings and is useful if a third-party repaint has been made of a default aircraft with the registration included.John
