FS 2002 Landing and Taxi Lights....what;s the deal?

Featured Replies

Does anyone know how to fix the problem with the landing lights not being visible from the cockpit (and virtual cockpit)? I am aware from some of the topics on this forum that not all aircraft have visible lights from the cockpit, but now I realize that for some reason I can not see ANY landing OR taxi lights from the cockpit (or virtual cockpit) from ANY of my aircraft, even the default ones; I used to see these in the past, but now, for some reason I cannot.Has anyone experienced this before?

I'm not sure if this is the answer, but I believe in the display options under the aircraft tab, there's a "landing lights" option. You'll probably find that you don't have it selected.Hope this helps.Dave

Thank You for the reply! Actually, I have checked that option, and do have it selected.

One thing to try--toggle the lights on and off by pressing the "L" key twice. Some aircraft (especially some of the first FSDS2 aircraft released) suffered from a FSDS 2 bug when they were compiled that kept the landing lights from being displayed in the cockpit or VC. This was fixed, but the authors had/have to recompile their aircraft. Some haven't, others have. The Malibu Mirage I uploaded to the library a while back does have working landing lights. If you don't see them, then you know something's wrong with your FS2002 config......-JohnHere's a couple of links to the Mirage and a model update:http://library.avsim.net/sendfile.php?DLID=34171http://library.avsim.net/sendfile.php?DLID=34500

John, Thank you for the tip, I will surely try using this plane as soon as I can. In the event that something is wrong with the configuration, what would you recommend I do? Will deleting the FS 2002.cfg do the trick?

Don't know if it is related, but do a search on reflections regarding video driver issues. I'm not sure if landing/taxi light illumination relies on reflection properties. Also make sure your lights slider inthe FS setup is cranked up to eight, just in case.

Ejiro,Did you install any texture updates or replacements?I'm not sure, but I think that some replacement textures which reduce runway/taxiway etc. illumination may also influence the intensity of your taxi/landind lights

I wish to thank all you kind folks for the time used to reply to this thread.I finally fixed it, although I can not claim to know exactly what the problem was.I am posting this incase someone else encounters the same problem. What I did was to delete the FS2002.cfg file, and then start FS afresh.Of course, this means that all the settings such as the joystick assignements were lost, but that was a small price to pay, becasue after this, the light worked like they used to.
