Rudder too sensitive in FS9

Featured Replies

Hello!I'm new at this but here goes:Is anyone else having problems with the rudder keys (0 and enter) being way too sensitive while taxiing the Cessna 172?! The problem is the same on my CH yoke (I've programmed the rudder controls onto the right yoke handle rocker switch below the hat switch where rudder trim is usually assigned). I can't find anyway to control sensitivity for the keystrokes or the button on the CH Yoke. The rudder feels correct once the plane is airborne but on the ground one touch and the plane vears off the runway.Secondly, in FS2002 it was possible to change the pan-rate in the virtual cockpit environment by adjusting pan-rate in the FS CFG file. Is it possible to do this in FS9? I couldn't find a FS CFG file in FS9.Thanks!DD

I too am quite new to MSFS2004 and I also have the same problem as you. I have the type of joystick that can be twisted to provide rudder input. In the Cessna, I especially find rudder a problem when trying to apply it on take-off to counteract engine torque - I always seem to add too much and end up fish-tailing along the runway. I have also found this to be a problem in IL-2: Forgotten Battles. My only thought is that the keyboard and joystick input are too sensitive, but this problem would go away with the foot-peddle system. Any thoughts anyone?Cheers,P...

I fly an EvenStrain HOTAS Cougar and Thrustmaster Elite rudder pedals. The stock C-172 performs very well for me. Ground handling is smooth and easy. I need to use a little right rudder on take-off to offset the P-factor. I find the 172 very stable in normal flight regime... the stall is just OK, and I don't care for the spin characteristics.Nice airplane to fly on my rig. My young daughter is training with it.

You can change parameters as nulzone and sensitivity.Go to start-configmenu - joysticks, you will find these things in the drivers of the youstyick (do not know the exact names, I have a Dutch version of windows ).You can get there also from within the FS menu.Norbert

By default, the key presses in FS2004 are `press sensitive`. If you quickly press and release they move a little, if you press and hold they move a lot, and faster. To apply less rudder, don't press and hold, just stab two or three times.Allcott

A good first post DD. To answer your last question first (where is the config file?), look in the first topic on this forum. I believe that it is called, "Read me first," or "Read this first." The answer depends on the operating system that you are using. For WindowsXP, "C:Documents and SettingsOwnerApplication DataMicrosoftFS9"Where, "Owner," is your User ID.Once you've found the config file try this to desensitize your rudder. Find the "CONTROLS" section of the FS9.cfg file. The word "CONTROLS" will be enclosed in square brackets but those brackets are control characters in this forum software so I can't put them into this reply. Here is what my "CONTROLS" section looks like:{CONTROLS}KBDAIL=64KBDELEV=64KBDRUD=10PAN_RATE=400pan_in_cockpit_mode=1stick_sensitivity_mode=0Notice that I've changed the value for KBDRUD. That affected both the keyboard and the CH yoke rocker switch. I have my Yoke rocker set up just like yours (even tho' I have rudder pedals, the yoke rocker gives more precise control when taxiing fast). I also configured Button 1 (on the front of the right yoke handle) to recenter the rudder, like the NumPad 5 key.The last two entries in my "CONTROLS" section are parameters that I read about on this forum. You might wish to experiment with those too. I hope this is helpful to you and welcome to this forum. R-

BTW you can adjust this "press sensitivity" in the options menue for everey single key or joystick button assingement separately (can't remember the path at the moment). Wolfgang

I have been given the advice from a real pilot to either have real rudder pedals or not to enable rudder control at all. This because you can't really simulate rudderpedals by twisting a joystick.

R-Thanks! This worked perfectly! For those who don't know, you have to enable hidden folders viewing to find the Application Data folder. DD

>I have been given the advice from a real pilot to either have>real rudder pedals or not to enable rudder control at all.>This because you can't really simulate rudderpedals by>twisting a joystick.>I totally agree. After having pedals in F2000, then not having them for 2002, I finally splashed out on some new USB ones for 2004 recently and the flight modelling is obviously and clearly designed for use with pedals. It is so much better I'm surprised it's not included in the readme's from MS!But of course, MS don't sell pedals!Allcott
