ATC problem with Kelowna B.C.

Featured Replies

I'm running FS2004.When I create a flight from Kelowna B.C. - CYLW, there are 3 starting locations for KelownaL1. Kelowna CYLW (the one I want)2. Kelowna Heliport 1 CYKH3. Kelowna Heliport 2 CYH2Selecting the first option, it appears in the next window as "Kelowna Glider" which is another location on the Kelowna airfield, represented by AFCAD af2_cykg.bglI have no choice but to load this, but it registers as CYKG and this messes up my flight planning, because the system is looking for CYLW and finds CYKG. Any comments or solutions to this will be appreciated.Stan

The default CYLW afcad shows a start point for a helipad with the property of runway 1 (a default assignment) plus the two for the main runway 15/33. In the runway list runway 1 does not show but that is just a necessary start location property. The other two airport IDs did not show up in an afcad search. Is this an add-on scenery? Is this the only afcad?I think you need to change filename and airport properties airport ID of the one you have if necessary. It would take not an AFCAD designed file because of automatic excludes to layer three sceneries as one. Use AFCAD 221 in the utilities library here to look at the one you have in your add-on. Try to determine if this is supposed to be three separate overlaid sceneries. Search when doing AFCAD's Open Airport for each ICAO and see what comes up. Don't save any files with AFCAD just yet.If this is freeware please post a link to the scenery so it can be looked at.

Here's what I found out:First, as suspected, do NOT do anything with AFCAD on these files. These are designed as overlays with no excludes. The excludes are separate bgls. I looked at them with ADE9X.The ICAO CYKG is also a default FS9 airport nowhere near this one.The heliport runways are 250 ft long x 1 ft wide. They serve a special purpose evidently. Paved. The glider runway CYKG is 500 ft long x 1 ft wide. Another special purpose. Paved.CYWL looks good except for one orphaned node and maybe a disconnected link both at the south end taxi point. These might cause an AI problem.I loaded a the scenery from CYLW and it did show the glider name. The GPS showed the overlayed airports. I reloaded the flight from a GA ramp and it located OK.I think somewhere there is an option in loading a plan in FS to allow the plan to move the aircraft. I'd turn this off.I did not see any exclude in the CYKG glider airport that would give it priority over the default FS airport with the same ICAO but I did not try creating a flight from CYKG.

Thanks for those observations guys. Interestingly, I disabled all the scenery files which might have impacted on this, so theoretically it should have shown only the default FS9 file, but I still had the problem. Looks like I've been banned by the FAA from flying to or from Kelowna. I'll fiddle a bit more, based on your suggestions, and if I make any progress, will get back to you.ThanksStan

Here's a bit more:What is happening with flight planning. I don't use the FS9 planner but the two different airports with CYKG as the ICAO might present a problem. Now this CYKG does show in the ADE9X approach editor (with no approaches) which is why it shows on the FS9 GPS with no plan loaded. The planner should see this as well.If you can contact the author I'd ask why default ICAO was duplicated. I can't examine all of the excludes so maybe the default is excluded in one of these special files as if that airport was moved but according to the link below it wasn't:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CYKGwhich matches the FS default.

It looks like you must have some addon scenery so you need to get that sorted.scott s..

This was cross posted on flightsim.com and the scenery was kelowna3.zip over there. My reply is a bit more detailed as well.

OP and anyone else interested. I created a replacement afd file to try file for the kelowna3 scenery. Please see the included readme. It should fix among other things the removal of the default CYKG from certain scenery databases, among them Radar Contact, It's Your Plane, and perhaps others.I can't attach the zip here. PM me if you wish to try it and give me an e-mail address to ship this small zip file. All I did was change the airport property ID to a non-existent ICAO code CYLG from CYKG.Preliminary testing shows all OK.

I should add all four layouts for kelowna now show up when creating a flight using the city name. That solves the OP's problem.

Ronzie, sorry to take so long in getting back, but I was searching and trying and experimenting. I'd appreciate it if you email that file at [email protected] I'll give it a try and see what happens.ThanksStan
