FSX panel and gauge design

Featured Replies

Hello,I am interested in creating a fully custom FSX plane. I would like to know if there are any freeware gauge or panel editors available. I have noticed on the SDK there is a tool for creating a gauge from a .psd image. Is there any way to make one or multiple .psd images that would animate according to the plane's attitude in FSX?

Thanks,

Kevin L

Kevin, might I suggest that you pick one area of development at a time to learn? :( Honestly, just as is the case with 3d modeling, the subject of "panel and gauge design" is just as complex (perhaps moreso actually), and will require a significant investment of time, patience, and practice... :( As it happens, there is one -and only one- "panel design tool" available: FS Panel Studio. Although one can create and edit panel.cfg files with notepad.exe, the ability to actually see what one is doing is well worth the one-time cost of ~$30. FSPS was one of the first tools I purchased about twelve years ago, and I consider it the absolute best thirty bucks I've ever spent! All updates (and there have been many) have been absolutely free.Yes, for FSX there is a tool which will take a properly formatted .PSD file and create an XML gauge. To be perfectly frank though, one would spend far more time trying to master the convoluted techniques required to create the layered .PSD file than it would take to author the raw XML file manually... :( Because one can create "gauges" in both C and XML, in my opinion one might be best served by taking advantage of the "free version" of Microsoft's Visual Studio Express, because the same program will serve both types well. Its XML Editor is excellent!
